So, a while back I posted about a SecaII I was trying to buy....
The guy that was selling it had no real desire to call me back to arrange an exchange, it seems, so I gave up and started looking in CycleTrader again.
I just got back from buying a 1997 GS500E. :) It's a beautiful blue color and amazingly ding free. It needs a dose of carb treatment with some good gas, and the battery needs a serious charging. It will also need new tires in the next thousand or so miles. But that ain't bad for as nice as it is on a whole, and for $1850, what's a little more?
On a side note, it's much easier to put a bike in the back of a pickup than it is to take out of the truck. Am I doing something wrong?
As soon as I can steal, er...borrow a digital camera, I'll put a pic in the WOF. :thumb:
I am so geeked I probably won't be able to sleep tonight......

Congratulations!
Have fun and ride safe.

I find that it sucks either way :). I've been thinking about getting a nice wide ramp that I can walk up with the bike or simply ride the bike up into the bed. Its really freaky taking it out of the truck with a dinky 6" wide ramp and especially when its a 4x4. The tail gate is a bit higher than my waist. It helps if you have access to a neighbor's steep driveway. You can back up to it so your tail gate is closer to the ground
Congrats on your bike! It sounds like there're a couple things to do but definitely minor. Have fun and be safe :thumb:
Just from getting squirrelly dirt bikes on and off for many moons, "striaght on, and straight off". You don't duck around getting a bike off. Launch it and then hit the brake at the bottom of the ramp.
Have to admit it's unnerving the first time. That's why I like street bikes. Take care and they spend little time on the truck.
Congrats on your new [to you] gs500! you're sure to enjoy it as much as we all do...
Getting it on the truck takes a steady hand.
Getting it off however is easy!
Just open the tail gate, unstrap, reverse truck real fast and brake real hard.
They come off real quick along with all the other crap you really didn't want in there anyway. :thumb:
Just kidding - Welcome to the board.
I would suggest a ramp that's wide enough to get both feet down on as you roll backwards. They sell some nice aluminum/welded ramps at most larger cycle stores. Expect to pay a few hundies for it though.
You know, now that I'm thinking about it, you could rip up the ramp, do a stoppie, and swing the rear around and land in the truck ready to ride out again.
Or, do a 12 O'clock wheelie up into the truck and pivot on the rear tire landing heading back out.
That would be cool. If Mat (with 1 T) is reading, this would be a trick for you to perfect.

ramp? we don't need no stinking ramp. just get a buddy or two and lift it.
Yea that's how bike thieves do it...
Cool.
Srinath.
Welcome! Congradulations on the chance choice of bike with no dings (it was meant to be!)!
Go to the hardware store and pick up a ramp kit. It's 2 aluminum ramp ends and 4 bolts that attach to a 2x8x10. I roll the bike up/down one ramp and walk the other.
