In my HotGrips wiki entry (http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Upgrades/OxfordHotGrips) I detail a simple way of removing the stock grips.  :thumb:

Don't advise people to cut their grips off if for some reason the new ones don't work or suck he can't go back to stock. Easiest way is lift one end with a flathead screwdriver and spray wd40 in it then do that to the other side and start twisting the grip to get the wd40 moving around then it will slide off. Then do it to the other grip.

even better, AquaNet hairspray. why ? you can spray it under the grip to help loosen it, twist, and it spins right off. for re-installation, spray plenty in the grip, slip it on, wait a day. it gets sticky like glue, and your grip won't spin. :)

if you really want your grips tight, wire em down like motorcross dudes do :)

Use a heat gun! Worked for me  :D Be careful though, don't melt your grips. A hair dryer might work too.
I safety wired my grips, I think it looks cool and it guarantees no slip.

Wd-40 worked fine guys thanks but how do i get the choke assembly off?
Can always cut choke cable cause i manually choke when i need to (which is seldom). But what about the electrical wires???
I'm only taking off the grip to replace clutch perch.

1 buy stainless wire, thin gauge = better
2 wrap a strand or three around the ends of your grips
3 twist, but don't cut into your grips by twisting too much ;)

done

Use Scotch 77 spray adhesive.  Same stuff we use to install de-ice boots on the wings of airplanes.  Available at NAPA.

Spray it on the tube, then inside the grip.  Count to ten, assemble.  DO NOT stop forcing the grip on until it is in place, you'll NEVER move it again without cutting it off.  Wait 24 hours in the summer, longer in winter.

What electrical wire? Im guessing the saftey switch you dont wanna cut those but you can jump them. The choke cable you also dont wanna cut unless you feel like buying a new one.

Cut them off, then clean the bars with MEK.  (Be careful, it will remove the paint.)   :thumb:

Grips are about $8 for the good ones.  I like the Superbike gel grips.

Oh..  I should add...

Mask off the area around the bar and the fuel tank with aluminum foil or plastic wrap.  Scotch 77 doesn't come off paint too well.   :icon_mrgreen:

When you wire the grips on, they don't slip. If you have grips that are spinning or sliding up and down the bars, you can wire them on and they will stop moving. It is a quick and easy way to take care of grips that are misbehaving...
