I just bought an '89 GS500 off ebay for a great price. The bike is complete minus carbs. There are a few carb sets on ebay right now but off newer models. From what I have read the 89-00 carbs are interchangeable..... The plan is to get the engine running well on the bike then transplant it over to my sidewinder mini buggy project. The question, what are the differences in the newer carbs? Would there be a better carb for lower end torque, or am I stuck with trying to find a good set of 89-00 carbs?

P.S. Any other tips for boosting low end torque are welcome and appreciated.
Sorry I don't know enough about the carbs to be of any help, but if you plan on taking the engine out can I purchse the clip-on handlebars from you?

to boost low end torque on the GS you are pretty much limmited to sprocket size. :cheers:

Yep, that is planned. What is the smallest engine sproket you can get for the gs500?

14 tooth is the smallest I've ever heard of... You could always go with a larger rear sprocket, it would increase your chain life and I bet you could find one with a larger change...
Planning on a 60 tooth rear and was thinking 13tooth front. When I get the bike I may check to see how small I could get away with and make one if there is little luck finding something.
