Title: Is this a sign that it's new clutch time?
Post by: Juan1 on January 29, 2009, 10:22:41 AM
Yesterday I installed a new clutch cable, which allowed me to feel when the clutch itself was providing lever resistance vs. when the cable running in its sleave was providing resistance.  After this, I noticed that the clutch engagement point appears very quickly once the clutch begins providing resistance.  The bike still goes completely into gear once the clutch lever is released.

Is this normal?  Am I approaching clutch replacement time?

The bike is an '89 with an unknown number of previous owners.  The odometer shows 7,000 miles, so it's either broken, or has very high or low mileage.

Clutches start slipping when they are gone. The bike will rev but not move especially in 4-6 gears.
You adjust them so they catch earlier and it has no effect. That = new clutch time. Hope it helps. FWIW, I got 48K from my 89 and still was going strong.
Cool.
