Title: Getting closer to my racing weight :) Atkins works
Post by: john on September 22, 2003, 07:03:33 AM
I have shed an incredible 16 pounds on Atkins in only 6 weeks.  I plateaued after a couple weeks then the last 2 weeks I started dropping again.  I feel better, by BP is already lower and my johnson is 3 inches longer.  I am reborn!

Seriously, this Atkins/low carb type diet is incredible.  If you can live without bread, sugar and potato you can do this diet.  I bought no books, just got the gist of the diet and watched what I eat.  Anyone who has a bit of will power in them can lose weight.

The best part:  No excersize.  I have not altered the meager amount of excesize I get al all.  I walk a couple miles a couple times a week.  Thats it.

Once I lose another 14 pounds I look forward to introducing fruit and more veggies into my diet.  I don't think i will ever eat so much bread , potato, sugar or rice again.  Living without donuts is a small price to pay to stay thin.  Thanks to everyone who gave me advice when I started dieting :thumb:

So, you are up to 5 inches now, huh?  Congrats.   :nana:

Now you do realize you could never mention the length of your manhood without some jokes from the crowd.  It's all your fault.

My wife sells Zone fitness packages at the gym she manages.  It really does work for the average joe.

Even without exercise, it'll make a difference.

I believe there must be some principle which states that the more euphoric you become about losing weight, the more rapid the collapse you'll experience when your insatiable appetite begins to overpower your diet.  Dude, research shows that 95% of all successful dieters regain ALL the weight in 1 or 2 years.  I tried to give you some good advice, and maybe a couple years down the road you'll be ready to hear it.  I won't tell you I told you so, because I seem to prefer learning the hard way myself.

John, now, add some carbs to your diet  SOME , and start working with weights just alittle, not heavy weights, but moderate weights and lots of reps, this will build your strength and add to your endurence, both on track and elsewhere, weight isnt so bac as being out of shape and fat. hope your still drinking lots of water. stairs, tredmill, bike, swiming for cardio,  weights dont take long, and doesnt have to be boring you will thank me when your on the track.

Dude, it IS possible to alter your diet so that you consume far less carbs than previously. I've done it and I've held my weight for looong time. I dont even like eating pasta anymore. When I do I get hungry again soon, but not so if I eat more lean meat and other proteins (like tofu-my wife's chinese so I get lots of that 'round here).

if you make a permanent change and not approach it as a "diet" you wont splurge with the food -the point is not to make it such that you are depriving yourself. A little carbs in moderation once you get the base weight down is fine. Like everything else-moderation is good.

You don't know me very well.  I have will power like few others.  When I decide to do something I do it.  The sweets cravings lasted a few days then after that I returned to normal.  I quit smoking cold turkey after 19 years, one day I decided I wanted to stop and never smoked again.  If I can quit smokes I can modify what I eat.  Plus with me I always liked high protien, so this change caters to my tastes already.  I will add fruit to my diet in a few weeks (the peach tree is loaded with peaches).

With a strong constitution and the ability to say no to my desires I have no doubts I will lose the weight and keep it off eating just like Pablo does -high protien and lower carbs.  I never liked pasta, rise I can pass on, bread I don't like.  So really how much am I giving up?  Maybe a few tortilla's a week (I DO like those), 1/2 a box of frosted flakes after dinner?  I can live without those things and thats why I gained 50 pounds within 4 years.  In 4 months I'll lose back that weight and keep it off.  I'd bet money on it.

John,  Congrats on your weight loss.  I know quite a few folks who have had remarkable results using the low-carb diets (be it atkins, Zone, South Beach).  Don't listen to the negative folks here.  Low-Carbs is the way to go.
DateLine Has had a running story about weight loss... they took a few folks looking to loose weight and put them through different programs (Weight Watchers, Atkins and some others) and most experienced some loss.  The biggest thing was that they kept at their program.
One thing to be concerned about - the dude following the atkins diet on the DateLine specials developed gout.  His diet was %100 beef, so that was the culprit (Hamburger for breakfast, 2 burgers for lunch, and steak for dinner).  Just be smart about it  :thumb:

The high protien is not supposed to be 100%, you still have to have some carbs in your diet to process the protien and so forth process the fat in your system.  If you don't have the carbs your body will not process the protien that well.  Good luck on the diet  :thumb:

A high percentage of smokers kick the habit everyday, but research shows that 95% of successful dieters regain all the weight within 1 or 2 years.   You need to know what you are going up against.

I'm reminded of that commercial with baseball manager Tommy Lasorda for a certain high-protein dietary milkshake.
QuoteI'm NEVER going to look like THAT again
he would say in his before and after presentation.  Well, he DOES look like
QuoteTHAT
again.

Hey, watch out for that tofu, man.  One study linked the squishy stuff with the early onset of senility.  And, it's not the beef that curbs my appetite:  It's the lurking threat of BSE.
