My GS is an '01 and has very low miles... however, the tach face is very faded. It looks like its been sitting out in the bright sun for years. My speedo looks fine. I'm thinking that the previous owner dropped it at some point and had to replace the tach with a junkyard unit.
Anyway, the crappy looking tach bugs me even though it works perfectly. Does anyone know if the face can be replaced?

It will probably cost you a bundle...Does the tach have the chrome ring around it...if so it is the 01's tach cos the earlier ones have a black ring.

Actually send the photo shop template...I want white face that lights up blue...how's that...put blue light in it yes but the face should be white in the day time...BTW when you seal it back...do you get it water tight and does it look nice and neat.

Thanks for the advice. I wound up finding a 2001-2002 tach on ebay, so I'll just replace it in the short term.
However, I may crack the old tach open and try making a gauge face replacement as described above. If it works out, I'll post the photoshop file.
Also, the tach my bike has on it now is an older (black bezel) tach. I haven't pulled it off yet, but I thought I heard the 2001+ tachs weren't directly interchangeable with the older ones. What might they have modified? Just hoping I don't have to un-do a bunch of crap (wiring, etc.) that the previous owner might have screwed up to install the older tach.

I have a 2001+ dash...Speedo, tach and top plate and idiot lights on my 89...nothing was different...except the damn turn signal indicator idiot light...they went from the normal yellow on the 00- to green yes...just like the neutral...So often I am left wondering why is my neutral light flashing...and OMG :o :o :o I am doing 60mph....then I go :x :x :x .
