Title: help removing tach from engine?
Post by: Train on February 16, 2009, 07:48:39 PM
Okay, color me lost. I've taken off the tach cable from my 91, and I'm trying to take out all of those pieces and install the pieces from post 2001 models so the tach hole is closed up. How do I get the current pieces out? Any help is appreciated.

take the bolt out that holds the speedo drive to the head.  The speedo drive isn't fastened from the inside of the engine or anything but it will seem that way (at least mine did).  You just have to pull really hard.   I just did it on mine last week.

Damn. What did you grip the part with, pliers?

I found a sturdy place on the head to pry gently with a big screwdiver while I pulled as hard as I could with pliers.  It worked. I must have checked the bike bandit diagram a hundred times to make sure there was nothing else holding it on.  I couldn't believe it could be stuck in there so good.
