Title: Bloody Kwaka's (pic heavy)
Post by: bubba zanetti on February 20, 2009, 10:33:15 PM
As good the GS is, I need something bigger for the miles I cover, also to do two up riding because my eldest boy is getting some bike gear for his birthday. Here in NSW the minimum age for a pillion on a bike is 8  :cookoo:

The end of last year, a mate wanted to get rid of his '81 Z750 + spares bike. The bike was rough (as a 27yo bike would be), plus there were carb problems, apart from that it's a runner and just about ready for rego. Seeing that it's be a few years before I could afford a new bike *shakes fist at having a large family*, I decided to buy the bike and have it as my replacement for the GS, plus it'd be a good project for me and my boys.

This is when I got the bike home.

My plan was to pull the bike apart and clean/refurb/paint everything except the motor, but do it as a tight arse project.

So far I've pulled the rear end off and done it, repainted the swing arm, brake hanger, etc. Polished the rear peg hangers.

I've also rebuilt the forks, polishing the fork legs. I repainted the dials, triples, etc. The switch blocks are alloy, so I polished them up.

The youngest boy wanting to help. He wasn't yet 3 in the picture, but he took out all the bolts of the cam cover of the spare motor, after I cracked them.

The bloke I got the bike off had a tin of a metallic green paint mixed up to paint the bike which I will use, it is a very dark green that looks black from certian angles. The rims will be painted gold. Once we get Our stimulus payments through I'll be going full steam ahead with the bike.

Looks like a fun little project :thumb:  Might want to keep the littluns away when it comes time for the painting phase................I can only imagine how disastrous that could be :icon_rolleyes: :icon_lol:
