Title: My "E" conversion
Post by: murf425 on February 23, 2009, 07:47:26 AM
I was doing some routine preventative maintenance on my bike today, since my plastic is in rough shape anyway from a couple of drops, I decided to take my completely stock '06 GS500F and convert it into a GS500E.

Now I need to track down a headlight mounting bracket, headlight, and bucket for an E model to slap on there.  Then I'm going to use some bar end mirrors and a small sport screen to complete the old streetfighter/cafe racer look.

Oh, and it needs a WAY bigger horn. *evil grin*

This is gonna be super sweet by the time I get done with it.

Questions, though:
I know I need a headlight bucket, ears, and a headlight.
What else do I need?  What do the turn signals connect to?

The signals attach to the fork tube brackets, which is also what the ears attach to.

Check this thread for pics.

Okay, so:

Headlight
Bucket
Ears
Fork Bracket

Is that everything?

Mirrors... I have 2 fork tube brackets but they are both for the left side... if you end up needing one let me know.

I've been throwing around the idea of adding the F model windscreen onto my bike, but have never seen the F model outside of online.  Can you take a picture of the fairing stay bracket still attached to the bike, but the upper fairing removed?  Can you tell me if the windscreen attached to the fairing stay bracket or if it attaches to the upper fairing which then attaches to the fairing stay bracket?

Also, would you be open to a trade of the E model headlight, and all the ears for your F model stuff?

Thanks,

Nick

Looking good. The black frame with the black tank looks great as an E.

What's the best way to get the warning sticker off a fuel tank without scratching the paint?  I tried using a knife like I did to get the decals off the plastic, but it wasn't working.

I got my bar end mirrors in the mail today:

I have a set of fork brackets enroute from a forum member, and a headlight assembly I won on Ebay yesterday.  Should have her finished up next week.  Next time my fiancee comes over I'll have her bring her hair dryer so I can get rid of those ugly decals all over it.  :thumb:
