Title: stock electric tach on a 95
Post by: jeremy_nash on February 23, 2009, 11:20:58 PM
as far as I can tell from searching, and going through wiring diagrams,  orange wire is a +12v  black with white stripe is -12v   and black with red stripe is signal, and hooks to black with yellow stripe on right side coil

Well, did it work? Have you tried it yet? If the electric tach is really just picking up off the coil, it should be pretty easy to install. Going the other way would be way harder...

I'm not gonna try it till I get confirmation on the orange wire, as nobody has mentioned it in any of the posts about the later model tach

well, I got it finished a few minutes ago, and dgyver you were right on track.  thanks for the help man    I  just hooked the tach power and ground to the gauge lights, and hooked the signal wire to the black w/red where it goes into the cdi box

So is it working yet?  I didn't want to sit and try to figure out all the old wiring so it was just easier for me to sell this to you then try to get it to work on mine.

Thanks,

Nick

it was dead simple, utgunslinger, black w/whitestripe, and orange to gauge lights.  black w/red to cdi box's black w/yellow.  done  that easy

Thats from scratch.  The PO of my bike had the wiring so screwed up and fubared that I had to cut everything out just to figure what it was.  The PO had a total of 17 extra wires ran in the wire harness and everything was stock except that tach!  It was easier for me to start over from scratch lol
