Title: GS on the track
Post by: dgyver on September 22, 2003, 07:53:40 PM
Rode a track day at Talladega GPR (//www.tgprace.com) last Sunday the 14th with FSRA (//www.1888fastlap.com). Man does this baby rail!  :) Took me a couple of sessions to get the feel of the bike before putting a knee down. Hey, I used to ridding a TLR on the street. A little adjustment on the rear shock and the rest of the day was awesome. I was amazed that I could keep up with 600's...when I hit the turns correctly. I was fun out turning R1's, but only to be smoked on the exit....only if there were a few more ponies. All the fun is in the turns anyway.  :thumb: VHS Photography was there and took some great photos. I will get some posted soon.

JamesG...why did you sell this bike?

Thanks! I was never really trying to put my knee down, it just came naturally. Actually, the first time was when in a group of 4 and we went 3 wide into a turn. I had to hold it tight on the inside to avoid running wide. Most of the day I was working on breaking points and counting up/down shifts, as well as body position in the turns. I was amazed how stabile the GS was in the turns. Even if I upset the chassis it calmed down very quickly. I was great seeing all the pics of me so I could critique my riding style and position. Need to work on turning right...that's for next time.  :)

'Cause I'm a dumb ass...

Thats ok, and I'm really glad you are enjoying it.  :thumb:

I'm selling my KLR650 and the wife's '00 GS to buy a new "F" for her (and so I can copy the fairings) and putting together a new bike to do track days and maybe tilt that windmill called WERA again...

Tally is a 3.5 hour ride for me. I am just south of Greenville. I have been thinking about going back to Tally with FSRA on Nov 16th for their last track day of the season. Unless I go to CMP with NESBA on Nov 15-16. It's a 3.5 hour ride as well. Also, may go Dec 6 & 7 with EBRS for another track day. Have to wait and see what the weather is doing then. There were a lot of riders there that had never been on a track before and had a blast. Sounds like it's time to go  :thumb: I was the only one there on a GS and a lot thought it was a SV  :P

It was a blast to ride. And just think...that was my first day riding it  ;)
More fairings?....you must really enjoy making them.
Are you building another GS for the track...or what?
I have thought about racing next year, but right now I am happy with track days.

I have a friend who road races cars and they rent out that track once or twice a year and a group of about 10-15 go and race all day. I used to live in Anderson down by you and the guys lived just over in GA.
