Title: Can my frame be unbent? (where the rider foot peg bolts up)
Post by: tussey on February 28, 2009, 10:19:59 AM
Lowsided few month back and bent my rider peg. I replace the peg and it was still bent leading me to believe it was the actual frame which has been bent. Can it be fixed? Pictures attached.

That's what I thought. I'm gonna heat it with the pegs on and crowbar using the peg bracket as a fulcrum? How long should I torch it for? Until it's glowing red or maybe for like 2 minutes? Should I do front and back or back only?

Is your frame bent or just the rearset? If it is just the rearset, why not get another one and bolt it on there? Might be easier... Also would be a decent excuse to go with woodcrafts if you've been thinking about that kind of mod...

I would try bending the rearset out to where it is straight like it should be

On my bike i can bend the rearset in to place with my hand. I would do that. Mine was looking a little off one day, I just gave it a good pull, and it came back.

Yeah not only will heat destroy paint it'll make it the metal softer because it'll anneal when it cools.

Yes frame bent and it happens often. I would and I have, pried it straight with the footpeg carrier and a steel pipe and once its in place, ride it to a welder, get the carrier off and weld in there if there is any splits in the frame. Thjen grind it up smooth, and its good - or better than new.
Cool.
