I have a Emachines computer with a ECS Geforce 6100SM-M With An AMD sempron processsor 3800. the Emachines bios wont allow for a bigger proccessor and I want to add a AMD Athlon x2 Caus ei need more power for my recording software. If I buy the same board Will i just be able to unplug remove and reinstall and thats it. this is the board i would get http://cgi.ebay.com/ECS-GEFORCE6100SM-M-AM2-MICRO-ATX-AMD-MOTHERBOARD_W0QQitemZ130290297476QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2?hash=item130290297476&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50
thats the same board I got. I do not want to flash my bios
I don't see why not. You might have to do some minor work on the software end of things like reactivating windows or installing some new drivers. You might not even need to do that.
a friend told me it should be a swap and thats it. but that guy was :cookoo:
Yeah not sure if the BIOS will update itself. It did for my ram upgrade from 512 to 2GB. Just plugged it in and started it up. BTW that was a laptop running XP.
usually will work wihtout a reformant. hell i replaced my 939 rig with an am2 system. now i have spare parts. i miss my opteron server cpu though. it sits on teh shelf crying cause im not using it anymore
:icon_lol:
As far as I know the ecs bios should be loaded. But the board I have is limited to 2gigs of ram and an amd celeron processor I want 4 gigs of ram and a dual core processor. Ecs,s bios can run 6 gigs max I thing I'm not worried about the video card I'm using an ait radeon and the sound car is an emu 0404 so the only thing I need the bard to have is a open bios not the emachines modified bios. I will be using the same exact board just not the one that came with the pc.
youll need a 64 bit os ( xp or vista or linux) to see more than 3.5gb. ive got 32bit xp in this machine and 4gb it only sees 3.5
I shouldn't need at 64 bit os just a 32 to see 4 gigs and ill never see 4 gigs cause some is instantly used as virtual memory. I'm really in need of a dual core for what I do that way one core is used for the system ans the other can be used for my recording program, or at leasr in theory. The ram is more for using plugins and multiple track being played together. I need to go to bestbuy and talk to some geeks.
wouldn't it be much simpler/cheaper in the long run to just buy a new computer? :dunno_white:
oh, and my step father had an emachines computer...hated it, whenver he wanted to do upgrades on it, it sucked. very expensive and time consuming. seemed that it was very picky as far as compatability. of course, this is just a general thought based observation, i've no IT experience/training other than using my pc at home. :icon_mrgreen:
ive got 4gb on my pc atm, and a 32 bit os only sees upto 3.5 my gpu is in good shape as well. but what socket are you running? mach?
You may/will need to (tatto) your Motherboard. XP is set to notice hardware changes and may think its licence is in a new machine... then it will become an invailid copy.
Sometimes this doesnt happen but you should check for info on "how to tatto your MB) just incase
otherwise a re-install will take care of it as well
