Ok, so... my fork seal was leaking and I decided I was going to pull both forks, upgrade the springs and fix the seal. I have the forks removed now, but I have a question... once I loosened the pinch bolt near the axle, it looked like the fork on that side (left side fork facing the front of the bike) pushed out and caused pressure on the axle - which made it hard to get the axle bolt out. My question is, could this be due to the leak that had developed in that fork? Is this a common problem? What other problems could there be that you guys can think of? This makes me very nervous as I'm not sure how I'm going to get the axle bolt back in once it is time to reassemble. Please help! :icon_sad:
WTF - why is the axle still on and you're taking the fork apart ... dude, first you get the wheel and calipers and then the fender and brace off, then pull the forks off the triples before you touch them. You're back asswards. Sometimes you can loosen the top cap 1-2 threads after loosening the top triple, but that is about it, nothing else to be touched before getting them legs off. In fact the lower damping rod bolt comes off better with preload on the thing. So maybe you dont even touch the top.

I hadn't touched the pinch bolts up top, this was while removing the axle to remove the wheel. The question I was asking was in regards to one of the first steps I took just so I make sure that this is 'normal' with leaky fork seals. Why in the hell would I remove the forks before taking the wheel off?
Blown seals wont get in the way of getting the axle out at all.

I must have a bigger issue with the forks then... I'll get them rebuilt and try to reassemble and go from there. Thanks
