... and I am keeping the fairing. I looked at models at National Cycle and they all seem to be for naked bikes or "E" models. Is there windscreen for the "F" model that would be suitable for a driver of about 5'10 stature. The OE "shield" is a joke and doe not even protect the upper chest area. Need for longer trips and such.

My zero gravity touring screen should arrive today, so I can let you know in a few days what I think of it.
I have the Zero Gravity Double Bubble.... I noticed a huge difference once I got it on. I'm 5'11 and once it was on, no more bobble head for me... I highly recommend it.
I have a ZG Touring for sale if you are interested. It is in new condition.
I've got the sport touring and it is good too, on lonely stretches of desolate highway I've had it 100+ mph and it's more comfortable than the original at half those speeds. Plus there's no appreciable difference in top speed or mileage so there's no reason not to get it, in fact if you tuck underneath the wind bubble I think you actually gain a few mph top speed more than tucking with the original. It must smooth air better.
Grommett2k's zero gravity spoken for.
I've got a ZeroGravity DoubleBubble and it has made touring much more comfortable. It keeps my torso dry in the rain. Still got wind on my helmet however. I'm 6'1 tall.
Here's my ZeroGravity DoubleBubble
Quote
Well I ordered a Double Bubble Light Smoked screen 2 weeks ago from http://www.surfsidemoto.com/store/product/ZGRDB.html .
Got it today :D
I went light smoked as I still wanted to be able to see through mine for head down flat chat type riding but I was worried the clear one would look silly without the black out tape on its lower half.
I am absolutely wrapped with the look and the reduced wind buffering on my jacket. The wind now hits me at helmet hight so I wouldn't say its made my ride quieter, but it has made it more comfortable.
Now for what everyone loves, the before and after pics ;)

Here you can see the double bubble sitting next to the stock screen. Its 4.3cm taller than the stock screen. The build quality and optical clarity is first class. It can be fitted by removing 5 screws and two rubber grommets.

Just pulled the trigger on an order for the sport touring clear Zero Grav. They had none in stock, but are making some some, he said expect to receive delivery within three weeks.

Awesome mate. Make sure you post a review (and if you can some pics) to help others make their decisions.
Sorry about all the crap in the background, but couldn't be bothered moving the bike. This is the touring shield.

It's been on on for a few days but haven't really had a chance to see what it's like yet at a continuous highway speed. The only issue I have is that this shield is "creaky" when you touch it, but the standard shield makes no noise at all. I can't hear it when riding though.
i ordered the ZG touring screen and it should be here soon.. ill put of pics of mine when i screw it on.
Looks good :thumb:
After you go for a highway trip let us know how it goes :icon_mrgreen:
i rang up the store i bought the screen from today and they said that the ZG touring screen is back ordered... so it will be another 7 weeks for the shipment to come in.. so i ordered the ZG DB screen so hope in 3 weeks it will arrive
Like I said before; I ordered teh Zero Gravity Sport Touring on March 3. THe guy there said they would not have any until a new production run was done. I got it yesterday and installed it, but have not ridden. Maybe get a photo over the weekend. It installed easily, except one of theose damed well nuts fell through and I had to remove teh shield and start over.

Since there are lots of pics above, I see no need for more. This mod fell under the catagory of not worth the effort. It maybe raised the air stream from my mid rib cage to right about throat level. Still looking for a real wind screen. One tall enough so that I can look over it, but just barely and where the wind stream goes over the head. Yes, I know its a bike, but on the other hand ITS a WINDSCREEN -- needs to work if its gonna be there.

With a windscreen as tall as what you are describing your GS is going to look like a Parasaurolophus
(http://www.d124.org/dino/images/parasaur.jpg)
That's what you get when you take a standard bike like the original GS500E with an upright riding position and put a full fairing on it and call it a sportbike. Maybe they should have gone back to the original 89 model clipons for the F models so the rider could tuck in sportbike style. :icon_lol:
I find my big Plexi 2 puts the line of turbulance from the top of the shield just over my head with the shield below eye level. Very comfortable at speed and good for rain too. But I wanted more wind for summer riding so I put a smaller Spitfire shield on and got the turbulent wind right in the face, very noisy as well as windy. Couldn't get it above the face so I lowered it to put the line of turbulance down at neck level and found that to work for me. Did quite a few 400-500 mile freeway days with the Spitfire shield set that way wearing a full face helmet. Gotta get those shields set just right for the rider. Still put the Plexi 2 back on for winters.

I have to admit I am not a fan of large windscreens but, I think the one you have is very niclely done! I'd sure would like to see more pictures from the side and with a rider before making any decisions on purchasing. Do you have or know of links to these kinds of pictures?
Because of this post I am ordering a double bubble in light smoke tomorrow!

1) Remove old screen?
2) Install new screen?
Actually looking for a little more detail.
Does the inner cowling have to come out? If so, how is it removed?
Chuck
You won't have to remove the entire cowling just a few of those little plastic screws. Then it should slip out pretty easily.
Mary
Thanks Mary. That is exactly what I needed. :thumb:
I installed the Zero Gravity screen today and took it for a test ride. It work great. :D Wind blast was significantly reduced at all speeds.

Due to this post just ordered a Sports touring fairing from Zero Gravity for my 09' ve heard you may need to trim that a GS500F. I have heard their MAY be some trimming involved but I have my fingers crossed it won't be so.
I ordered my light smoke double bubble last week and its on back order for 2 weeks

Do you have any more/bigger pics of this. I think the clear looks better than tinted when it is so tall. A tinted variant IMO makes the bike look tall and skinny...

I found these in the gallery (not my bike). It might help ya get an idea of the size difference:

Here are some bigger attachments. Not sure why some come out like postage stamps and some like billboards. I am glad I got the clear. Was originally looking at smoke but didn't think it would go well with the silver/gray fairing.

Got the Zero Gravity sport touring in smoke:
(http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/7307/zerogravity.jpg) (http://img63.imageshack.us/i/zerogravity.jpg/)
So the stock windshield blocks wind right about up to the bottom lip of my helmet. How much more would the touring windshield help? I would think moving the blast up midway the helmet would be actually a bad thing.
It depends on how tall you are and how you sit your bike. I am 5'6" and prefer an upright posture. The blast from the stock screen hit me in the chest and I noticed distinct pressure on my head and upper body, particularly above 70 mph. With the Zero Gravity screen, the blast moved to just above my head (I think). The pressure on my head and neck at speed is all but eliminated. I have heard of adding a Laminar Lip to the Zero Gravity but have not actually seen that or tried it.
Keep the shiny side up,
Chuck
PS
The smoke looks very sharp!
I got the Zero Gravity double bubble with the bike when I bought it second hand. Didn't put it on until a few months later and it made a big difference. It's a clear one though and I would love for it to be smoked. Does anyone reckon it would be possible to take it to a window tinting shop and get it done there? Or would it not work to well on the plastic/exposed to the elements?

www.newneough.com has the sport touring in stock for the gs500F. In both clear and smoke. They don't carry the double bubble.

^^^ Looks good! Thanks for the link, but I'm in Canada... so shipping will kill me. But even still the shipping to Canada from US (NewEnough) is $25.50 more!
I do live about an hour from the border, so I might use one of those mail depot places and ship it there. It's a good excuse to load up on junk food available only in the US and not in Canada. :icon_lol:
just installed the ZeroGravity Sport Touring screen. It seems kind of thin but it's much quieter at highway speeds. I can duck below it and it's eerily quiet. I am 5'9" by the way..

I have spoken to the dealer, and they are happy to supply to the US or Canada for a reasonable cost - simply email Danny your address and ask for a quote in $$$ sales@intobikes.co.uk

I posted this in the Aust meet and greet, but thought it might be approprite here as well
Just thought I would let you know that you can order Zero Gravity windscreens direct from the Zero Gravity on-line shop (www.zgoutlet.com)
I have been quoted some ridiculous prices from bike shops! With the exchange rate being so good it will cost me 113.50 delivered for a Sport touring smoked screen, which is less than half of what I've been quoted here in Australia!
I got the sport touring from ZeroG and I love it. I ride three piece cafe bars so when I tuck in it im laying on the tank. Behind this screen I hear nothing but the engine screaming. No wind, no road noise, just the sweet 4 stroke symphony. This screen has definatly helped with my winter riding and no goggle summer riding. I do agree with the previous post that this screen may need shaved though. Mine is slightly crooked when viewed from the top. I havnt shaved it yet but if you are a perfectionist, expect to break out the dremel. And for gods sake be careful with the plastic screws. They strip like Paris Hilton after half a beer.
