Title: I HATE NELSON-RIGG
Post by: Kaizer on March 03, 2009, 12:29:06 AM
F#$%^#$ the bastards! This is the fourth time I had to return their crappy motorcycle covers. I ordered another one under warranty and the damn thing doesn't even fully cover my bike. I tried to tell them to pay for shipping and return my money, since it wasn't what I wanted. Hell no! You can't reason with them. The stupid covers break-down and tear within months of normal use. The sad part is, Wal-Mart has a similar cover for half the price and it is better made. Grrr. I am just super pissed and wish to pass on the message of boycotting their products. Thanks, appreciate it!

The only wal-mart cover I found is a cruiser cover.  Is that the one you guys are using?

Statesboro walmart only has the huge cruiser ones, I had one for my gs, it worked alright but half of it dragged on the ground.

They have the LARGE cover and I think it is universal. I forgot what the exact title is on the box. It is 19.99 plus tax. Can't beat that. And it DOES repel water fairly well. Definitely have better luck with this one than that other #$%#^#$Y^ company. grrrr

+1 on the Wal-mart cover! I've had it for a year and it has faded and has a small hole but other than that does well on the bike!

I don't know about Nelson-Riggs covers but there saddle bags are awesome. Guess maybe some things they make well other's they don't.

I have a medium Dowco Guardian Weatherall Motorcycle Cover from bikebandit.com (http://www.bikebandit.com/product/5655) and it has held up pretty well for the past 7 months.  It's tight, but works well at keeping the snow off my bike (which is stored outside).

No, but my bike seems just fine out in the rain without a fancy cover... I'm pretty sure it isn't in danger of melting...

Not really, it has paint on it... When the paint comes off, I hit it with rust converter and a rattle can. Sure, the exhaust gets a bit rusty, but I can always just sand blast it and paint it... My bike is a commuter, not a garage queen. Its whole job is to get me to and from work and perhaps have a little fun on the weekends. I ride it at least 5 days a week in all weather (well, all weather we get here is Los Angeles, but hey, it did rain today..). I think riding the bike on a regular basis is far more important to keeping it running well than covering it. I put more than a tank of gas in the bike every week, so there is no chance for the tank to rust or the carbs to gum up.

Yeah, you do have the coolest wife in the world. I once asked my girlfriend if I could bring my bike in the apartment so I could get some work done on a rainy day and she threatened violence... I can't wait to live in a place with a garage so I can work on the bike when the weather isn't good.

I'm jealous, mine hasn't even been started since the rebuild.  I've still got the tank and carbs left!

I would get kicked out of my apt if I put her inside. Sucks. All my other bikes have a nice room to themselves. The question is, how do you get rid of that nasty gas smell? Doesn't that drive you nuts? Hmmm.

Yeah, the girlfriend wasn't too happy when I got the second bike... I did offer to let her ride it when it runs though, we'll see if she ever takes me up on it...

I wish I could remember the brand of the last cover I bought. (last one I needed)  I paid $30 for it in 1983.  Sold the bike 9 years later with the cover and it was still good.  It was gray and had mesh in the fabric.  It never broke down or ripped.  Elastic loops did lose their elasticity, though. (just like my underwear does!)

lol I told her I was looking at this one, and came walking home with it since it didn't run and she about blew a gasket.  So if I came home with another, running or not, I might be hitting up my fellow board members for a place to live!  And with less than 230 (I think) days till our wedding, I'm trying not to upset her more than I have to lol

Aww, she shouldn't be mad at you for having a bike that doesn't run... At least it gives you something to do with your free time besides bother her...
