ok i have brighthouse hd here at home. i have the scientific atlantic explorer 8300HDC HDPVR from them. i save hd shows to the hd on the dvr but it does not have that much room. i have about 6 or 8 HD hours saved and that is 25% of what it can hold. what i would like to do is plug in my laptop or a external card and save those hd shows to it. i want to be able to save more hd programming and be able to play it later on my hdtv's , pc or laptop. is this possible? has anyone done this? please let me know how/if it is done and advise.
again thanks guys

ps it only has the "copy to vcr" option in the menu and tales me to input to the cable b oy outputs OUT2/VCR
you can install a huge harddrive in that dvr. there are tutorials tailored to specific models, so you won't have to use your laptop to watch movies (big plus)
What I do is I have a DVD recorder. Unfortunately it does not give HD but it is good quality anyhow. I use DVD-RW so I can rewrite over it if I'm done!

HD has copyright protections hence you cant transfer directly from that DVR to your laptop unless you do some mods to the box.
Secondly HD videos are 4x the size of non HD videos. My timewarner box will take about 80hrs of programming of SD and about 8-10hours of HD. So what you are seeing is about right.
yup what tgg said is right, any option for an external hdd on that thing?
