Title: strange idle problem part 2
Post by: zebcotia on March 06, 2009, 08:25:13 PM
I am still having the same problem with my idle speed.  I will try to be more specific with what it is doing and what has been done and checked up to this point.
Open choke all the way and start.  Starts up right away first crank.  Idles around 2000.  As it warms up, the idle does not change as it should.  If you shake the bike, like sloshing the tank back and forth, the idle picks up for a second or two.  Or if you lean the bike over to the right at about 60 degrees from 90 it will also pick up the idle to around 4000.  If you open choke while leaning it will idle at 1300 for a few and then begin to starve and die.
All cables have been checked.
There is not particulate matter floating in tank and tank petcock is clean and clear.
Checked float levels with clear tube and both are perfect.
Frame mounted petcock clean and clear.
IF you lean to the left there is no effect on idle.
It all seems to point to some sort of float level problem, but what would allow it to change idle speed with the leaning or sloshing?

HELP.
thanks

A float level problem won't make itself known until the bowls empty, which takes a couple minutes at idle, so I doubt that's it.  Put your petcock on PRIME and see what happens.  If the problem goes away, your diaphragm is starving the carbs for gas.  The fuel diaphragm is a known sucky component in the fuel system.  That's why I ride on PRIME and return to RESERVE or ON when parking for safety.

I will try that sunday morning.  I will post back if there is or is not a change in behavior.
BTW this problem appeared suddenly with out warning.
