Title: clutch lever install
Post by: Toogoofy317 on March 08, 2009, 06:38:19 PM
So, I put the clutch lever on that Loki sent me for free what a guy!

It looks exactly like mine well not exactly being mine is a "U" now. Anyhow, it is out about an inch farther than my old one even before it bent. It works correctly but I can't lock the handle bars without it hitting so much that it disengages the clutch  :o

Any tips!

What is it hitting?

EDIT: The Fairing? I have bar backs, so I have allot of room between the two.

Yeah, it is hitting the fairing. I have an '04 F model.

Are your bars rotated forward (pushed away from you) by any chance?

Nope they are just like stock. I mean the brake lever is fine. When the old clutch lever was in its manufactured state no issues.

did you by chance move it when putting in clutch lever and have it tipped up or down on the bar different then it was before?

Found out that when My bike was knocked over by A$$hat neighbor it moved my entire front fairing over and now it is off. If someone can tell me how to straighten it out without completely taking off the entire fairing and adjusting the mounting brackets you'd be my best friend.

Right now I just don't have it in me to do all that work. Dammit I want to do upgrades and mods not constantly fix my bike because of someone else!

Mary,

Your best bet is to go ahead and do everything right the first time around so you won't be "fxing it" again later.  Taking off the fairing on a F model gs is quite simple.  Only six allen head bolts hold it on.  Pull em out, take it off, straighten your brackets, and you're done!  And if you have the same problem again, I think the next thing you should straighten out is your neighbor! :thumb:

Yeah, the reason that I am going to wait is I want to get them painted. Blue and Gouges isn't the color scheme I'm going for! My friend has professional paint equipment so when we get the garage cleaned out we were going to do a good job on them. But, he hit a deer tonight on his shadow! Two bikes to work on now :icon_sad: .

Trust me if I could have found the uhm "neighbor" that did this they'd be doing the same work on their car cause I would have taken my baseball bat to it!

Now on the hedlight area of the bracket it seems like it'd be hard to get back straight. I'm sure I'll have to get pics to show you.
