Title: Great ride today with the rats!! (with pics)
Post by: bombadillo on March 08, 2009, 08:40:13 PM
Man, my buddy had a birthday today so some friends decided to go out riding wet or not, and boy did we get all kinds.  First, we started off in Eureka down at the local coffee shop and took off from highway 101 out to highway 299.  Drove up the pass and was dry pretty much all the way up.  Slowly it started getting colder and colder.  Finally, we looked out over lord ellis bluff which is a 4-5 thousand feet up and was gorgeous except it started snowing!!  I would have taken pics of it up there but didn't want to take my gloves off and let my hands freeze anymore than they already were.  As we came back down, averaged a speed that is much higher than what the CHP appreciate so we got one of our guys picked off by an officer.  He was pretty cool but ended up giving him a ticket anyway.  We were all doing around 80 in a 55 with 8 guys and he picked the rattiest looking bike with the least number of lights of course.  Guy ended up getting a 63 in a 55 and all was well so we went back on the road again.  Made it into Arcata CA, and stopped to bum out a friend who had to work instead of going riding with us, then stopped off at a local bar for a brew and went home for the birthday BBQ.  On the way home, only about 10-15 more miles and it starts hailing on us.  I'm thinking man it can't get any better than this, and stopped hailing and started raining pretty good instead.  So cliff notes, rode a good long ride today, hit snow, hail, rain, sun, and clouds.  Welcome to Humboldt county!

Thats actually a ninja zx7r with off road headlights that he turned into a streetfighter.  That and the cafe bike is a gs550 on the far right is his as well.

"the rats" are just a bunch of guys on rat bikes that tend to ride a lot together and got coined the rats.

Nothing wrong with some good fun with some minimalist machines!  I like the rat bikes!  Glad you enjoyed yourself, and thanks for sharing.  I would have enjoyed some individual pics of the bikes myself--just to see what they were and what they ended up!
