Got home from school today and jumped off my bike to get the mail and as I was walking back to the house, I noticed a big nail driven deep into my rear tire :x It is over towards the side of the tire and not in the center. I guess this means a new tire. I can either haul it in or drive it real slow for about 10 miles to the bike shop. It would be easier to let them pull the wheel off and mount the tire. Oh well, at least I noticed it. Probably would be safer for me to haul it there though.
Wow spend the big money on getting it unmounted? I'd take it in yourself and save a $$$$$$ of money!
I got a nail in my brand new tire but I eas very luck and it went in horizontal with the tire tread and never went all the way in cause I was PISSED!
put bike onto center stand, loosen/comrpess brake caliper piston,, loosen/remove rear axle, slide tire forward, (remove chain), take wheel in not whole bike. is cheaper on labor cost
send me the tire with the nail in it, Plugs dont scare me.

So is it okay to plug a m/c tire? Or should it be a plug-patch from the inside? I just had a plug blow out on my Vanagon (doing 80 mph in 100 deg weather). Wasn't too dramatic, but would probably be kinda gnarly on a bike.
What about plugging it. It is not in the sidewall but in the tread. My brother-in-law said it would be fine to plug it. The tire has an awful lot of tread left. I don't know. Whatever you guys think.
Your life, ask just about anyone, they will say no, get another tire, well, hell, i aint got that kinda cash and i pick them up left and right at airport (lots of contractors in and out) its a personal call, I cant afford new tires every month, so i will gladly save you all tire disposal fee's. Just because i do it and live doesnt make it right. thats a choice you must make and should it fail, live with, or die with. i have had plugs come out and tires go down at speed, its not fun, fact its down right scary as you have a hard time controling things. if i had the cash i would not hesitate for new. let me know, i might even be able to kick some twards shipping.
I'd put a tube in it...but evidently you cant in a 70 profile tire.

Patch it if there isn't a big hole. I've heard plugs deform the carcass and belts, but I would plug it if the hole is already so large and deformed.
If you're gonna ride it, pull the nail first, you don't want that nail scratchin' up the inside of the rim which MAY ruin the bead of a new tire or your next tire.
Other than that, that's my two cents.
