Title: carb help
Post by: tiptonmustang24 on March 10, 2009, 04:06:21 PM
i just cleaned my carbs and now my bike is running much worse than it was before. Does anyone have a picture of where the mixture screw is? My problem is i can barely get it started. I have to give it a lot of throttle. then it will idle at 1000rpm and if i give it any throttle it dies. I tried adjusting the idle screw but it did nothing. also i tried starting it without the airbox and got it started but it ran horrible and was spraying gas out of the carbs. is this normal or did i reassemble the carbs wrong? Budda do you still do carb work?

i don't have a picture, but the mixture screws are on the under side of your carbs, toward the front. there are two and they should be recessed in two holes in front of the float bowls. it sounds like you're having similar problems to me though

Sounds like the fuel level in the bowls is too high.

Yeah, I'm going to go with float level here. It is pretty easy to get wrong while the carbs are apart. I took mine apart and measured the float height the way Clymer told me to, but when I double checked when they were back on the bike, I had to take them back apart and do it again because they were off...

Don't have a pic, but the idle air mix screws may have some brass plugs covering them.  They should be on the engine side of the carbs and are accessed from the bottom.
