Title: Looking for katana rear shock and nicer footpegs...
Post by: Topher on March 22, 2009, 03:32:07 PM
Looking around at shops in Canada and they want ALOT for parts like this.

I was hoping for a katana rear shock, tho as I'm 6'1" maybe an sv650 shock is better, I dunno, what does everyone have.

As well, maybe a set of katana, or ebay pegs, or whatever.

What does everyone have.

Respond here or in email, tophrsol@hotmail.com

Thanks alot

Sv shick is crap.
I'll sell ya a kat 600/750 shock for 40 and 27 shipping to canada.
GSXR shock is better but you have to shave your linkage. GSXR shock is 75 and 32 shipping, I can send you linkage too but need yours back. I also have refabbed side stands for the use in GSXR swaps. I'd need that also back form you.
Anyway, Kat 6/7 will work well if you're not racing or aren't over 220 lb.
Cool.

Gulp.....so since I'm weighing in around 250/260, was buying the kat750 shock not enough?  Will I now need to upgrade to the GSXR shock?

Its better than stock. I'd recomend you try it. Then try the GSXR. If you're buying from me, I'd have send you both and refunded $$ for you the one you send back.
GSXR shock needs shaved linkage, kat if its the long clevise (most all the ones I get are I make sure of that) does not.
With shocks its usually a great step up with any upgrade. You cannot believe how good your upgrade is, and how bad the old one was. Then you step up again and its again the same feeling.
I am pushing 230 these days and I feel good in the kat and the GSXR.
Cool.

K, I'll give a shot first to see how it is.  As you say, it will definitely be better than stock.  Are there certain years that had the long clevise (had no idea any of them were different)?  I picked up an 05 kat750 shock.

I'm also pushing 260 buddha, which one would be better.  I don't mind shaving the linkage, so long as I have an idea of what all needs to be done.  I must say though, the master plan for my weight by the end of the summer is 220-230ish.

You must have some ebay pegs stocked up too?

Oh 05 kat 750 is like a GSXR shock. The thing has a reservoir and what ever in it. Its not as good as the 91-95 GSXR 750 shock but its not a lot worse.
You definetly need to shave your linkage.

Topher - GSXR 750 90-95 shock all the way, and the 94-95's wide coils tend to act a bit stiff (even for a GSXR shock its pretty stiff) and I tend to avoid them.
I have a 91-93 750 shock I'd part with for $75 + $32 mailing (yes its 32 bucks), I just mailed it to london ON.
Nicely shaved linkage is included but I must have yours back.
Side stand extensions may be needed, I can do it but it's 40 bucks for a refabbed one (dont like extending by cutting and inserting a rod in it for various reasons) or I may extend it a bit differently for 20 if you dont mind it looking a little like well, somone extended it. I'll put a 2X2 steel tube and weld it up under its foot. Mailing all = 32 in flat rate box USPS.

Hey I'm putting up pics of various work I did with shocks, watch those and decide.
Sorry no pegs, I haven't done peg modifications ever.
The rear pegs can be put in the front, but that's not the mod you're looking for. You want rear set ?

@ 220-230 lbs 91-93 750 shock works better. The 94 shock actually is too stiff for any weight, maybe 300 lb+ may be better with that.

I would probably take the shock itself, I can see how the side stand looks and weld something up easy enough.  At any rate, 100 usd is still alot cheaper than the 150 cdn they quoted me here for JUST the kat 600 shock.

Chris

btw: just looking for pegs without so much rubber on them to gain some legroom.

Oh ... thinner pegs. Forget it. No clue.
The stand could be extended with this 2 in X 2 in I could send along. I wont cut and insert a rod in it, Just weld this big aasss chunk of steel tubing to under its foot.
You want GSXR shock - I have some good ones, some OK (dirty/rusty) ones that seriously need to get paint or powdercoated.
The body is aluminum, it prolly cannot be painted, the threads will not hold paint anyway.
The spring is powdercoatable but your call. Its gonna be 20 bucks for that.
Pics comming up of some cool stuff I did, and other pics for other people stuff too (like headlight or carbs etc).
150 for a kat shock unfortunatley seems like the walk in store price. I have some guys around here in a sorta deal ~ebay average $ and I get to test it before I buy it. I seem to be getting a steady supply (though I have some unknown shocks that also are promising) of the kat's and the odd GSXR. I test it and buy it and I am good.
Summer may be a bad time to start hunting for these too. Anyway pics of the stuff I powdercoated and then your call.
Cool.
