Title: Help - I need a good cheap tank bag
Post by: tripleb on March 25, 2009, 12:36:16 PM
I need a good cheap tankbag that has a decent sized map pocket that is easily viewable and can carry a few small things like cell phone, wallet, water bottle, etc.  Preferably, it would be magnetic as well.

I was looking at the Joe Rocket Manta bag which I get can get for ~$40, but it doesn't have a map window.  Other than that, it's just about perfect.  Anyone know of a good one for less than $50?

There's a company called EXL that sells stuff on ebay.  Their stuff is cheap and servicable.  I'd start there.

I like the Rapid Transit Recon 19. It has a map window, is magnetic, has a built in rain cover, holds a hydration bladder, and can be converted into a backpack if needed. Fits perfectly on my GS...

That was my one complaint about the Manta, I ended up buying it because my gift card covered the whole price. I was debating between the Manta and the CL-300, a little pricier than what you were looking to spend, but it's a nice bag and has all the features you're looking for.

I have the big brother Rapid transit 19 like Fred has and it is the bomb. I've talked about it many many many times. Can't say good enough things. Here is the 15 compared to mine!

Hope this helps!

Just making sure you know the one on the right is the $15 one and doesn't have a map holder. At least I didn't see one. Oh yeah at the dealer it is $35 so you'd be saving $20 on it. Mine was $70 but was one of the best $70 I've spent!

congrats on the new bag!

this is the newenough product page.  It looks like it has the map holder to me.  Maybe it's a new model or something.

Cool I can stop back by and check it out if you want. It is about 100 yards from my house to the moto shop so won't be a big deal. I can do a pic of the tags and what not. I don't want you to get a bag and it not have what you want on it. that sucks majorly!

Not trying to horn-in, but how about this one?  It's a Dowco.  It's $56.99 which isn't too far out of your price range and it looks like a nice bag and has the map window you're asking for, sewn-in rain cover, and more.  It's 40% off retail right now:

Mine definitely has a map holder.  8)  It's exactly what you see here: http://www.newenoughhp.com/browse/view_product_images/1592 No more, no less.  My only complaint is the strap mounting system.  It's a bit tough to get nice and secure and a little bit of a pain to unstrap if I take the bag off every time I ride.  Still, I'm not complaining for $15 (plus the S&H...).  :D

Okay what I was seeing is the Recon 11! http://www.newenoughhp.com/luggage/tank_bags/rapid_transit/recon_11_magnetic_motorcycle_tank_bag.html

That one does not have a map window and is much more expensive. Also, this Joe Rocket one looked kinda cool also in the $50 price range! I loved the drink holder on it lol!

It looks like the $20 is called the Bradly. They did not have that one at the shop so I can't give any personal info. But if it is rapid transit I'm very sure it is a good product
