Talk about LUCK!
My best friend was riding is '06 Shadow down a dirt road to his work. He was going about 35 and the deer apparently came out of nowhere. He flew over the top of the bike! Then the deer got up and ran away.
He said his right knee is hurting a bit and his pinky finger hurts. He said the helmet has some scratches on it. (I'm so happy I convinced him to get a helmet for Christmas). He did have his security jacket on guess that is what saved his skin. He said he didn't slide kinda like up in the air and plop.
The bike's windshield is toast, turn signals, handle bar bent, head light scratched, tank has scratches, exhaust has scratches, saddle bag has scratches. I feel bad cause he is always fixing my bike and dealing with all of my problems. Earlier this week his mom had a stroke and no one found her for two days and now his bike is all screwed up.
Sooo, if anybody has any 2006 Honda Shadow stuff let us know!
Mary
Wow, your friend is incredibly lucky, all things considered!
wow, lucky overall.
One of my dads friends hit a deer on his HD Sporty when I was a kid. He had on one of those novelty helmets. Needless to say, he needed reconstructive plastic surgery to put his face back together.
Good luck with the parts, I will keep my eyes and ears open.
Wow, Mary. Glad he's Ok, and you seem like a real nice lady and all, but I think I'll keep my distance from you. It seems like there's a disaster area all around you!
mary arent you in FL? How big was the deer? Ive always heard that florida deer compaired to michigan deer are like looking at a big dog. Glad hes ok. Good luck with the bike rebuilding.
Wow! Glad he's ok. Thank goodness the deer here in FL don't get huge like up north. I hate to think what deer antlers would do if they hit somebody on a bike.
I'll keep a look out for any Shadow parts.
Best wishes for a quick recovery for your friend and his bike.

florida has vicious hybrid salt water crocodile deer. don't fall into the size matters trap ;)
mary, is he on TSB ? glad he's ok, i've seen several deer on North Runs with folks from TSB. usually just packs of smaller, but occasionally a rabid 24 point buck in rut. scawey stufff
He seems to be doing okay. Got a nasty limp trying to get him to an ortho but he's a guy. I don't need to go yadda yadda yadda!
Apparently, it was a 200-300lb doe. The bike had dear hair all over the front crazy!
I guess I am a walking disaster and it seems to be rubbing off on him. So, don't piss me off or I'll put the mojoe on you too! LOL!
He says thanks for all the care and concern!
Mary
I'm glad you're buddy is all right. That suxs about his bike. But a 300 pound doe in Florida :icon_eek:. Let me know where he was at, I want to hunt there next season.
Glad your friend is okay! Oddly enough a buddy of mine was hit by a Red Tail Hawk about 5 months ago.... He was doing 70 on the Highway, the bird looked to have hit he headlight and went up into Bills face... Took him down and his brand new (I'm talking 200 miles on the bike he had for a week) Triumph was totalled. Gotta watch out for mother nature, she can be mean.
Last year a friend of mine hit a dear while riding his Harley. It was high noon and a straight road...deer jumped out of some bushes...probably intentionally if it was like any of the other Kamikaze Missouri deer I've seen or narrowly missed.
He was wearing typical Harley body armor (sunglasses and a tee-shirt) and needed several rounds of skin grafts afterward. Spent nearly three months recovering. After that I wear ALL of my safety gear.
Yeah, he does security out in the middle of nowhere for Lock Heed Martin. I'd guess to say that if you were caught out there you'd be the hunted! At LHM just to work security you have to have a top secret security clearance. I worked with them for awhile but was deemed a risk because of hospital bills. Of course I'd sell national secrets to pay that hospital bill :cookoo:
He took some celebrex and knee is doing much better. Looks as if the saddle bag took the brunt of the hit and his windshield. I can't believe he made off like he did and I was on crutches for six weeks with my at a full stop incident!
Guess I do have bad luck.
One thing he really needs if you guys come across it are the turn signal covers for a '06 honda shadow aero.
Thanks,
Mary
Wow, Sorry to hear it Mary.
Hope he's better soon.
poor, innocent, defenseless deer.
ACLU mountg a protest Eh? lol jk
ACLU!!! That's got me cracking up. We say that all the time about the cat. It is known as The Akasha Civil Liberties Union and see enforces it when she is meowing at her cat door to be let out so she can roam the yard and be the big black house panther. Well, until a bird kicks her a$$!
here she is all nipped out!

That's Bill pissing her off!
