I think I've been doing it wrong the whole time... basically my bike has a hard time started when its cold, so what i do is jack up the coke to full and then start it.... is this right?
or should i start it around half and then increase the choke... i find it odd because my gs500f dies almost instantly if I don't have the choke on and basically i SOMETIMES give it a little gas so it stays on and then increase the choke....
I start mine on full choke and then back off the choke little by little as it warms up. There's no right or wrong way to do it, really. :-)
I would say you do it right. I believe that even the manual says to start on full choke but then almost immediately decrease it to keep RPMs high enough so the bike won't stall but not higher than 3000 - 4000 RPMs.
PS. I don't have manual at the moment but I believe that what I saw sounded similar to what I just wrote :thumb:
There are so many ways to do it. I always start mine with full choke. Dependign on how she acts after that is what i do next. If she jumps right up to 3.5-4k rpms then i let it sit for a few seconds before i take the choke off. But if its cold, ill leave the choke on until the engine gets up to 3.5k, let it run for about 30 seconds like that, then knock it down to half choke. let it run for another 15, then no choke and let it idle while i get my helmet and gloves on.
If your bike remains running when you're done, you're doing it right. Every bike and every day is different so there's not one right way to do it...

This is true but pay attention to temperature. When it's below about 45 degrees the above is how you do it. When the weather is warmer you only need half choke. You'll find out!
