My chain was very loose so i tightened it up to 20mm(about) play as the manual says. but since doing that when im engine braking the chain seems to be rubbing. i think its rubbing on the plastic chain guide on the swinging arm. its kinda making a chattering noise. when im accelerating and the chain tightens under the load the noise is normal. do you think i should loosen the tension a bit? its wierd because when it was loose and was just running across the guide it didnt make a noise....

Some parts of the chain will be tighter than others. Did you adjust it so that the tightest part has 20 mm of deflection? If not, the chain might be too tight.
I don't know if that's what'd cause the noise, but it makes sense if that's the only thing you changed.
yeah the chain is a little worn and i did tighten it to that part. thinking im gunna loosen it off again.
could it be a rear wheel alignment problem?
When you tightened the chain, did you turn both bolts on either side of the swingarm? or just the left side?

yeah i did both and alligned them correctly. hopefully going to loosen it slightly tomorrow so i will update and let you all know the finds... and maybe more assistance :)

If your chain tension is uneven, your chain is junk and needs replacement. Quality O-ring chains wear evenly. Don't buy anything else unless you want to replace your chain every year.
A crap chain stretches in a few thousand miles to the point where there will be no play in one part and too much slack in another. It will reach the point where it's binding on the sprockets, making a clicking noise, and slapping on the chain slider on top of the swingarm, making more noise. It happened to me once.
You can get a good O-ring chain for about $65 and will last many years. A cheap garbage chain is $35 and lasts one year, if that. Do the math!

I agree here...had the same issue on my Kawasaki Ninja....had it in to the dealer for an inspection and they noticed it right away. Got a nice new chain and was good to go...no noise. Chain was definitely stretched.
Get it replaced soon, not safe to ride with it like that either.
just checked my chain as i was going to loosen it.. and its slackened off... but yet its still making the noise?? so im thinking the chain is quite unevenly worn causing it to flick about¿ could i be right in thinking this? when replacing the chain i will need to replace the sprockets as well right??
You should not have to replace the sprockets unless they look bent or very worn. When the chain is off, inspect them. Feel free to take a picture and post...i'm sure you will get some excellent responses on whether they should be replaced or not.
yeah might have to do that. going to take the chain off tomorrow and give it all a good clean and oil and inspection then see how the noise is then.
