Title: MSF course.... IN THE SNOW!! Man I love NY!
Post by: xanthras on April 04, 2009, 04:46:08 PM
I am amazed at how 32 degree weather, snow, rain, sleet, and a 15-25 mph wind can ruin something that would be so much more ejoyable in better weather...at least i dont have to be afraid of the weather anymore....

Is there any way to cut down on face shield fog? So annoying... I am either blinded or stung in the eye by snow flakes if i dont use it....

open up the shield by one notch. OR you could buy fog-free face shield for your helmet if the manufacturer supplies them. opening up a notch is easier option though.

and to cheer you up - I took my DMV road test in a downpour...

Fog City visor inserts... recommended to me by someone on this forum, and now I swear by them.  I've been out in ~30 degree (F) weather (that is about my personal limit  ;) )  and had NO fog whatsoever.  Also, they are cheap enough to get for each of your visors.

Did mine on the second day (out of 3) in heavy rain. Didn't mind though since the first day was hotter than hell. Considering the tires were cue ball bald they still had admirable traction...at least they did at the 10mph I was riding...

I'm in Buffalo and I ride a lot in the cold, but I won't ride when it's been wet and it's below freezing as street tires have almost no traction in such conditions.  There will be places where the road will have an invisible film of ice on it and can VERY easily cause a fall.  It will also prevent you from being able to stop.  Riding a street bike on ice and snow is NOT WISE.  :nono:

Rain-X anti fog on the INSIDE
Rain-X (original rain sheering) on the OUTSIDE

clean the shield with whatever you like first, to remove the bugs/scratchy things. then use the rain-x. works wonders. reapply every 3rd or 4th time after you suffer a downpour.

works fer me :)

I use the same combo for my shield.

It rained two straight days when I did MSF.  On the bright side, you learned some usable skills in the crappy stuff.
