Yes folks after weeks of tuning, my GS has come to life! When I got the bike it had Dynojet kit with 122 mains,3 position rich on needle, 37.5, & 3 turns. It has a K&N pod, and V&H Exhaust. That was not close right, it would run real rich up to about 3500 rpm. I orders new jets from DJ with not really much luck. The best I could do with all DJ parts was get it to run rich (and bog down) between 6000 and 7000. Next step was to try stock mikuni parts. This was what I should of done all along. I put in 137.5 mains, 1 #4 washer, kept the pilot jet at 37.5, and to somewhat compensate for the small pilot I have the screw at 4.25 turns. After hours of reading on this board and learning, I am sure that that 37.5 is to lean. I haven't been able to get a non bleeder 40 yet. So until then thats my set up. Also I wanted to add that I tried both 37.5 and 40 bleeders and you guys were definitly right it runs WAY rich. Like so rich I can really see and smell the black exhaust.
If any one know a place online to get these please let me know.
Thanks to everyone, without this board It would be in a repair shop right now!
You are prob still on the lean side of things and just compensating with the Mix screw, that thing is just about to fall out. I beleive max turns is somewhere around 4.5-5. I am running 140 mains and 40 pilots with just the K&N Pods.
Did you tune by plugs or dyno or?
yeah i was guessing i was lean, my problem is i am having a real hard time finding a 40 pilot
Is that K&N in the airbox or K&N in place of the air box. Makes a huge difference.
Cool.
Srinath.
He said K&N Pod so I was guessing the pod filters.
Yeah it is the pod filter(one big one). Does anyone know a place online to get pilots?
Sudco is the main Mikuni parts supplier in the US:
http://www.sudco.com/
You'll have to call them because they don't do web orders, or reply to e-mails.
Still ambiguous. Air box or no air box.
Cool.
Srinath.
Anyway the other point you want to remember is to get the top 1/2 right before going to work on the lower end. Top end changes have a huge effect on the bottom.
Cool.
Srinath.
Thanks for the link. I ordered the jets and they should be here in 5 days.
FYI the service there was graet and the salesman was very knowledgeable.
Price was 4.75ea, and 4.50 shipping.
Also he thought that the part number (09492-40014, I got from the board) for them was probably a suzuki number because he never heard of it before.
