Afetr doing some more research on becoming a firefighter I would need good credit before turning in my application. My credit is shot and the amoutn of collectors may b e a bit much for them. it says i should rsolve the mattes before turning in the application but I have no money to resolve anything.
So this is my option
take the emt class and apply anyway (wasting some money on classes books)
Go to wyotech and either do Automotive Tech and get my smog cert
or go to wyotech and become a motorcycle tech.
We dont have that many MC shops in my location so im not sure I love both cars and bikes so I m not sure.
Why don't you go to the source? Ask the folks that process the application.
If you are broke and your credit is shot, going to School is not going to make things better... Your credit will get MUCH worse from student loans and expenses like books etc... Just get the first regular job you can find that has decent pay and get your debt in check... There is a TON of info out there on clearing up your Debt yourself. I thought most of that was bull untill some old lady gave me a book (I will check the name when I get home) in 1 1/ 2years I took my credit score from 620 to 855 :thumb:
There are lots of laws governing how long they can collect, how they report the debt. You can even offer payoffs that are no where near what you owe... I had a Providian Visa Credit card w/ $1300 in collections and paid them $200 to close the account :icon_mrgreen: Had other companies trying to collect debts that had been over 4 years old. They had to close them...In most states 4 years is the longest they can attempt to collect. This book I am talking about has a CD that came w/ form letters and all you do is fill in your info, send em out and watch your score grow!
Its one of those late night TV guys, but his book was worth every penny...

I had some great sarcasm typed out, but then I saw that above. Shows how much I like reading about credit problems (I tend to skip over it).
I'm glad you're willing to help him, Scott, cause he sounds perfectly fit to be called "Infantryman" to me.
Just a question, Mach: When you were complaining about only having $800 in the bank, and not getting enough money from unemployment... was that before or after you took your family to Seaworld and bought new clip-ons?
You scoff at someone giving advice about someone's education, which didn't even concern you, giving you a chance to complain about your finances... yet you've posted over a dozen times about your excitement about EMT SCHOOL. All you've done is complain and b!tch about exercising (and whatever else you can think of) to get you into the Police Dept, then Paramedic school (which is TWO YEARS), then the Fire Dpt, now it's Wyotech (which is also education).
Something tells me that you'll be b!tching about that in two or three days, also.
-You don't want advice, dude, you want attention.
-You've scoffed work-out advice from someone with your body type that spent nearly a decade standing side by side with the big boys.
-You scoffed my advice about getting your wife's visa and brought her over too early. Now, she's here illegally, and you can't afford to send her to see her family. But, you complain that she can't work, yet, to help you out. Who's fault is that?
-You talk about your kid's medical needs, but you need Scott to tell you to go out and get a friggin JOB. How long's it gonna take until you start watering down the formula, making your family step in and pay for it when the kid has a seizure? My sister's got a blind kid, and I pay the formula, the diapers, the clothes, the doctor's visits... all because she sounds exactly like you.
Dude, I do more than you with a 19 hour load with volunteering, shadowing doctors, tutoring kids, and keeping a 3.6 GPA, and soon I'll be an EMT at the same time. What the heck are you doing besides fixing your kid's truck? Granted, I gave bad advice to someone with a marketing degree.. but dude, I came from nothing (just like you), have a crappy body type (just like you), have the same mechanical background (just like you), the same crappy family circumstances (just like you), had the same exciting aspirations as you, and you even live in a better house!
How much weight have you lost, because you'd rather buy your wife a $2000 plane ticket rather than eating? Yet you act like you've got it so hard...
I've got everything I have from going to war and EARNING it, yet not a soul on this board has given me a friggin "Congratulations".
But, I try to help YOU through the bad decisions that you've made, wasting MY time... and you just blow it off. And, I was about to do it again!
I'm all about altruism, dude, but screw this!
If a guy came out of the ghetto with a motorcycle, blown credit, family medical needs, no job, and an unwillingness to take advice unless it supports what he's already decided... normally we call that a "scourge". Why are you different?
Go to EMT school get You're B work on the Rig and finish you're medic. Make some decent money with that pay off some debt and go on to FF. Rural metro is everywhere and always hiring! EMT school for B is usually only one semester! Bust, you're ARSE with that and alot of places will help pay for your medic.
Or man up and go to nursing school. A lot of hospitals will pay you're way through nursing school will give you a job as an advanced clinical Tech while you are in school. FYI if you did Nurse Practitoner or Nurse Anesethetist they can make some mad money depending on the field.
I'm actually thinking of trying PA good money do practically same thing as the doc without having to deal with malpractice insurance! At my primary office I see my PA more than the MD cause he actually knows more. He's been doing it for 30 years!
Mary
Dude I never got her a plane ticket I met her in cali where I live. She works but makes $20 a day. I tried manu time to settle my dept but what I offer they wont take maybe scott had nicer people. If i got to wyotech my schooling is paid in full not by me so thats all free, everything else is on me. Im looking for work 8 hour out of the day talking to managers giving resume's and filling out applications but no one is calling back. Work in my field is slow most shops are slow I know many owners of big shops and they have no work. Clip-ons I had them for a year atleast, Sea world my sister knows someone who works their and she got us free year passes, we made our own lunch and we all carpooled. I never scoffed about your advice on working out you want bulk or you wanna get rippes I dont i wanna get fit and be able to the what ever job I am asked to do. I need to be realistic and look at the odds.
Wyotech is nine months min. depends on if i choose and special training
Firefighter is at least 2 years.
In the mean time i will be looking for a part time job so I dont have to wait till the weekends to take classes that will take longer. going to school at night and working in the day when do i see my kid and wife. BTW I never paid to get her visa her family did.
I never complained about ecersizing I just needed to find the best routine for my and i found it. I works great and my weight limit has went up.
Me complaining about wrenching NEVER my passion is cars and bikes. When i was in school the first time i loved it never missed a day nevre complained once, even thoug I was learning shaZam! i already knew and it was boring most of the time I still enjoyed the wrench time. Becoming a FF was for my family and cause its a set job.
Im on the fence right now wyotech would be free and free is good. I might not make as much but Ill make more than i do now
So you have been a mechanic? and you say the field is slow.. but you want to go to school for auto mech ??? I'm lost there...
School or further education is not the best choice now man... You need to get a job, whatever it is however bad it sucks until you get into a better financial position. Ive been there... tried jumping into school to get ahead and you get more behind. You need to be financially prepared to go to school.. How are you going to earn $$$ while in school? and school/work/wife/kids... is not easy.
I'm am deff. no expert but I have been there.. I went to I duno how many schools and had to drop out because of $$$$... once I got my finances straight then went to school it was soooooo much easier
+1 on the Nursing thing. There are TONS of hospitals and old folks homes here that pay you to train and become a Nurses aid.. A friend just completed a 5 week PAID course @ 9.00 Hr and got certified as an aid $11hr, took a phlebotomy 3 day class and upped his income to $14hr in a matter of weeks... Most of these places will pay your schooling for LPN or RN as you progress.
You found your own "ecersize" routine? Awesome. Do you have an idea, or care how annoying that gets? All the people on here that busted their ass to work out the perfect routine suited SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU, arguing and bickering back and forth. I ended a perfectly great friendship with someone, just to help out your sorry @ss. What do you do? Blow it all off, and don't bother giving suitable thanks. Do you have any idea that the only reason I even TRIED to help you on that (knowing the probably outcome) was to give something positive to this forum, through you?
But, great. You found something.
What are you talking about "You wanna get rippes"? You're 150 lbs and my 14 yr old, 130 lb brother can out-lift you in every event, and you can barely pass a 2-mile run! Who do you think would pass the FD entrance test easier? You're in no position to consider what it means to be "realistic".
Maybe you think you do, which is why you joined the military but turned down the G.I. Bill. Who does that?! Wait, I know! Somebody with a fall-back or somebody who thinks they have a good body... neither of which you have!
But, you insult my advice about education. That whole "ooooh, I WISH it were that easy". Yeah, that's an insult. I've heard that crap from dozens of people working an assembly line at Cummins Diesel, pissed that a college kid was inspecting their work. Every time I hear it, it insults everything that I've done to get this far, and others like me. George Washington Carver started his academic career as the friggin school janitor for Christ's sake, yet guys like you complain about "easy". Cause that's how you want it, right? Easy? You want somebody to hand it to you, like telling you which path you should take at Wyotech. You think anybody knows, or cares what you want to do with your life, or what the best thing would be? You can't even choose, yourself! No, no, no, you want somebody to hand it to you.
"Here, here's a career."
"Here's everything you friggin ask for, and you don't have to even say thank you."
You wanna take offense to somebody analyzing your personal finances, what you spend and where you spend it? Then don't complain about being in debt and post about vacations! Great, I'm wrong about you and your clip-ons. Well, surprise! You still have less than a grand in the bank! You still lose!
And, oooooh, you had them for a year... but sure haven't bothered selling them to earn money to buy your kid's formula.
And, you let your in-laws pay your wife's visa? Didn't you say she hated her parents? Well, okay, fine. Not a big deal. Pretty sh!tty to her.
But, you did it because you were broke, and you don't think I picked up on it in the original thread. Fine. I wasn't about to make fun of you; I was broke when I was first married. It's why I friggin stressed it so hard to pay attention to her plane tickets. But, no.... you F**KING BLEW THAT OFF TOO!
And, seriously, $20 a day? That's... that's.. God, how do you sleep at night?
What are you gonna do when she gets that Green Card and realizes that you can't support her or the kid? While her parents (that she hates) have paid for everything, and you're scrambling around, asking for advice on motorcycle forums instead of working your @ss off trying to pay your debts?
I'm willing to bet that your debt doesn't come from a failed investment or a start-up business gone fun bags up.
And, married life while in debt is NOT fun, worse with a kid. Yet, you've walked right into it, without a single plan. Lots of goals that you switch around when it fits your whims, but no plan. Sure, you make it look like you weren't responsible for switching your FD goal, with the credit issue. But, you just got booted out of the Police Department office for the same thing... somehow you "forgot" to ask the FD the same question.
I mean, for Christ's sake, Mary gives you advice on becoming an EMT (after you asked about it), and instead of taking it constructively, you talk about Wyotech.
Not to be a complete ass........BUT given what we know about mach, I doubt he'd qualify even for Infantry. Supply f%$k is where they'd stick him.
Mach, f%$k you and your problems. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in the short term to ensure a better long term. This is a basic tenet of life.
where did I get booted out I never applied I was doing some research and came across that. My dept has been their for years and I dont bother with it anymore. Money I dont tell everything as far as that goes I have money in the bank now Im working just not that uncle sam knows that. I talked to family members and they said stick to what im good at they made some good points. I went to school before learned the basic in automotive and i learned a shaZam! load on the job. scott I am a mechanic but I would like to be a tech and going in a doing advanced diagnostics is fine with me. I said I dont like my wifes parent and she dont care for mine. they offered to pay for her cause when she is legal she will try and get them to come over not cause i didnt have money I did but they already sent the money.
Whoopee for you!
See, when people try to help you, it's a big spaghetti plate of problems all tangled together, and you just keep heaping it on.
But, when someone yells at you, you trip over yourself to find solutions.
Basic training was supposed to teach you how to kick your own ass, but apparently you didn't learn.
I was stupid enough to help you before, trying to practice being nice. But, I'll be d@mned if I do it again.
Hey, you spineless turd,
I just talked to an ex-machinist on this board that lost his job with three kids. He's now going for his Associate's in a completely separate field.
Three kids. Not one.
Three.
So, the next time you come around here asking for advice, just climb on in the toilet and hit "flush".
I don't need advice I asked to get more views on the subject not for you to give me life speech I can care less what you do or did. I just had nothing better to do and my post count was slowing dowm beyatch. My strength training 5x5 is great anyone else use that program. From what I read it give great results and it more in depth than the riptoe stuff. Thanks mary but I'm not one to be a helper or assistant and hospital are not one of my fav places. And wladz I have notin to say to you cause you know me oh so well. I am not going to say everything that is going on in my life with 100% truthfulness that would be retarded some is true and some is for conversation. Havin a lil fun on other behalf.
Exactly.
You don't need advice, you were just bored and wanted attention.
Exactly like I said.
It seems that I DO know you "oh so well".
Turd.
Not attention dude I'm on 4 other forums two myspace accounrs and a facebook. I have much attention. I was just making conversation
i'm confused?
I thought the subject was "So, I need some advice". Wow, guess I was mistaken but what I said would say 90% be paid for. As for working under the table PRAY YOU DON"T GET HURT! It doesn't take much and your life is ruined cause you won't get workman's comp and if you end up disabled will probably get less than $500 a month from SSI! Don't think that would take care of the family!
But I'm not giving advice!
Mary
I did want advice I didn't want criticism Mary you gave good advice just mot what I had in mind. Im not asking for a hand out just an outside opinion. But after talking to my wife we came to the right choice. Oh and as far as formula goes we get it from his medical plan since he needs it for a stomach issue so we get 12 cans a month :woohoo:. and Im working at my grandpas shop 3 days a week that will bring in $900 a week Im fine with that for the moment.
when asking for advice on something, anything, be prepared for criticism. criticism isnt' a bad thing. alot of times you need an outside perspective because you can't see the whole picture because you're "in" the situation. does this make sense? also, when asking for adivce, you can't allready have your mind made up as to what advice you want. if you don't ask for the advice with an open mind, you'll be dissappointed in what you get. if you're looking for re-enforcement of a thought you allready have, that's not asking for advice. like a squidly dude asking for advice on a beginner bike and we tell him to get a gs and he gets mad because we are telling him that the 600cc supersport his friends have isn't a good beginner bike. he's allready got his mind made up and only wants to hear things that will confirm his decision. he's looking for affirmation, not advice.
understandable I made my decision yesterday but its not 100% till i see teh facility and I was asking for more of opinions I guess.
900$ a week? thats 1200$ a month more then i make working 240 hours a month? but you live in ca right? so the cost of living is a good bit higher :dunno_white:
i really don't understand the whole "cost of living" difference. really i don't get it. maybe i'm young and dumb or whatever. but it doesn't make sense to me. i currently live in a 3 bedroom 1 bath home. sits on a 45x140 lot. (roughly). my home is 1150sq ft. price we bought it for: 73k. this same house, in california would probably be 3 times that. :cookoo: :cookoo: :cookoo: :cookoo: :cookoo:
wow you would really have it rough if you had to live on what i make. you work 3 day and make more then i make all month on unemployment. :technical: guess i was born in the wrong damn state.
Wow $900 week for 3 days of work. :cookoo:
Guess what that's $94 a week more than I make.
Of course I moved to Oklahoma from Kommiefornia in 1989 I worked as a part time lifeguard 32 hours a week and made 17.75 an hour with my CPR instructor/trainer, First aid/ Instructor trainer, WSI, emergency OB and secondary injury assement certs. In Oklahoma that level of training was worth $5 an hour. I was stunned when I got a job in retail and It was $3.50 an hour.
these are not 8 hour days Im work 3 days a week from 5 in the morning to about 9 at night. i make so much cause my grandpa was i need of some help.

Heak for that I'll move out there and help him :thumb:
What do you do on your 4 days off?
And you make dang good money. That's more than I made as a Pharm. Resident working up to 100hrs/week.
Goodluck with with the plans, I hope it works out for ya. Keep us posted.
Chris
I'm a machinist I spend most of the day seting up brown and sharp automatic screw machines. The rest I'm deburring cleaning and packing parts. Its not all great that money is for gas and fast track fees. I have to drive 100 miles up and then another back
i went from making anywhere from $550-$750 a week(depending on the overtime) down to barely over $600...every 2 weeks....or if you like, $300 a week on unemployment. my paycheck got cut pretty much in half. and i get paid bi-weekly now instead of weekly. :cookoo:
I live on $1000 a month from SSD and six hours a week at Universal. I really don't want to hear the boo hoo's my life is terrible I live on a month what you make in a week!
WOW! is all I have to say on bitching about 900 a week!
Mary
I get 0000 a week and it freaking SUUUUUUCKS
I'm not saying its bad but Thats around the same thing I made in two weeks at my last job and this job will only last two or three weeks and most of that goes to gas and bills. so the pay off is Im left with a few hundred dollars after the job is done. but he is cool he calls me when he needs me.
Oh and if you think that moolah is going to the negative debt on my credit score thats untrue It will be going to the cards I have now that are still open and in good standing
How many cards do you have?
Not that I care. But, so I can laugh at a man that's swimming in debt, living off of his relatives' good will, and still has open credit cards.
And, don't think I'm the only one laughing. Your entire extended family knows about this one, hero. And, family NEVER forgets financial support.
But, even if they're great about it... look at how much guilt you have... how much explaining you're doing... the long term damage on your reputation and your psyche
And, chances are - if you ever get out of debt, you're probably gonna swing right back into it. Argue if you want, but it's statistics. You're smack in the middle of the bell curve. Those open cards are a dead giveaway. So many interesting things going on with that.
And, it'll be great stuff for the kid. He'll either be doomed to repeat it, or he'll make you his anti-mentor. And, that's just charming.
Or, I could be wrong, and everything will work out hunky-dorey. Good luck! :thumb:
all of my cards are still considered "open"......i'm waiting on my income tax return to pay them off. they were all paid until...well, you know...i'm not here to whine.... :icon_mrgreen:
I have no negative card dept right now most are paid off two are open the negative is from a mac tool box and sprint pcs and bank of america Im sure I can settle but I have no contact info on these people.
