I have the pic of the SV1000s in that color from the '03 Suzuki site set as my windows wallpaper.  I LOVE the color... visible, without being obnoxious.  I'm saving my pennies for an SV650s and I hope that they continue to make them in that color next year!!!!

I feel cheated, I wanted to see cleavage if not full boobies...  :(

and

The new SVs haven't done anything for me. They are too angular, blocky, and the frame reminds me of a cheap disposable fork...

I agree with you to a point. I hate the new frame on teh naked sv's.. but i think it looks good with the fairing etc.. and the whole design of this bike is awesome! :thumb:

From our "communal experiences" with the GS500 we should all by now that a little fairing (bad as it may be) is better that no fairing at all... just like pizza and that other thing

I'll think I'll get a SV650S as soon as they make one that my 5'8" frame can flat-floot at the intersection.

Do you think the SV1000 is a managable bike as a second bike?  I'm not questioning your decision but you seem to have ridden other bikes and can make an informed response.  The naked SV1000 is at the top of my list except that its a liter bike and the insurance may be too much.  Have you secured any quotes?  Whats your age? driving record?  of course if you don't want to answer those questions its cool because they are personal and all.

A big concern of mine is the jump in torque that can lead to a danger of highsides that wasn't as prominant as before.  I know we all learn throttle control with our bikes but sometimes the added power can be surprising/unexpected and it takes time to get used to it.

i sat on an sv650s and an sv1000 naked this weekend.  the sv1000 is actually more comfortable for me, and i can get both feet down at 5'7" (not flat mind you, but on the sv650s i could really only just barely get both toes down).

Well, to tell you the truth, it depends on your experience. I dont think it would be a good second bike though, Unless youve ridden a LOT of motorcycles.. and feel confident during a testride. Your right on the money about the extra power.. and it can be scary.

Test ride one.. I think the 650 or even a gixxer 600 would be a good second bike.. as long as you dont ride like a maniac. I think the four cylinder power delivery is smoother and more controllable. Ive heard the insurance is much lower on SV's because they are standards, not sportbikes...

Just IMO... :thumb:

The colour is great, as someone else has said, it's give you presence but isn't over the top. As for the bike itself, it's nice test rode one about 4 weeks ago and preferred it loads more to the 650. THe unfaired is no where near as good as the S version.

In fact my mate has brought one just like in the picture and it was delivered last week, have been riding it in for him whilst he's away with work. Suzuki has a good thing going with SV1000S.

As for being able to reach the floor on the 1000 but not the 650 - i would first ask if they were both the same ie faired or unfaired. If so was the suspension set the same?? At 6'1" i found the 650 offered more foot down than the 1000.

Take it easy & Ride Safe

The 'S' in SV certainly doesn't stand for 'Short'

Since when were the SV's supposed to be a "short", inexperienced riders' bike?  I don't think that's what Suzuki had in mind at all.

Personally I think Suzuki has hit a homerun with the SV... its a good starter bike, but its got plenty of appeal to experienced riders too.  good styling (IMHO), strong low end power, choice of riding posture (SV vs SVS) and the price is definitely right.

Starter bike, yes... short rider bike, no.  I have to bow to the crappy suspension making it more of a beginner's bike, but I still don't see how that means it has to be short.. I'm a beginner and I'm 6'3"... didn't shrink an inch when I started.  :P

Frankly, I think the GS missed its target market... 6'3" beginner riders... its much too low for me.   :x   I guess the point is that you can't please everybody, so you go middle of the road.. its just common business sense to go middle of the road.  that way you only tick off people under 5'6" or over 6'3".

I'm not trying to start an argument, just tryin' to represent my vertically superior peeps

peace

While we're on the subject of the SV's.  Does anybody know when Suzuki plans to release the '04 models... or at least post them on their website?  The "please check back soon" on the suzukicycles.com doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon... I'm really curious to see if they keep the copper color in the lineup this year.

peace

I also hope to update to a naked SV sometime within the next year, Ill probley get a 99 or 00 naked. I think they are a sweet bike.
Title: The SV...
Post by: The Buddha on October 01, 2003, 08:19:41 AM
The new SV being tall is missing its target market...Why...well the older SV was a bit lower than a GS...atleast lower than my GS. Now too tall and want the bike higher...has a lot of options...GSXR shock, shorter dog bones, higher profile tires, more seat padding...etc etc...you want to lower it and you are pretty much screwed...I'd target the 5 ft 2 in - 6ft...and raise for taller...
Cool.
