Hello I just got my first bike and it is 2001 gs500e, while cleaning it up I can not find a way to clean the inside of the tach or speedo.
It is fogged or just dirty but it will not come apart any help would be great, >:(
the bolts to take it off are behind it, pop em off and clean away

Are we sure about this? :dunno_black:
The two 8mm nuts on the gauges' back simply keep the individual gauge into their housing.
AFAIK opening the cover to clean up the inside of them might be a much more serious affair than this :dunno_black:
Actually...me thinks the only way to get inside is to pretty much "break" in. :icon_confused:
Yeah, you have to cut your way in.

You DON'T have to break in! Well, not nearly as destructively as advertised. The black ring at the top is metal with a lip on the underside (you may need to remove the rubber to make it visible). Get a small flat head screwdriver and pry the lip up. You'll need to do this 2/3 - 3/4 of the way around.
When you go to put the black ring back on, you'll need to press the lip back into place. It WON'T look quite as good as new, but the rubber should cover it up pretty well.
Let me know if my instructions are confusing.
Welcome.
Do a search for the gauge faces post with all the good pictures. There is a full blown tutorial with very nice pictures kicking around on this forum somewhere. It should tell you everything you need to know.
14oz. Ball peen hammer work well :thumb:
No need to break into anything, take the clock off the bike and leave it somewhere warm for a few hours.
Thanks for the info, I was able to get the tach apart and clean in with out the hammer.
