Title: Any Jobs Down South?
Post by: squirrel-22 on April 13, 2009, 10:19:00 PM
I got laid off a while back and have had no luck finding work. I live in Indiana but my wife and I have been talking about relocating. Is there any jobs down south ( Georgia,Carolina,Virginia)? I've been a toolmaker for 10 years, I was a parttime cop for about 4. I grew up helping my dad with construction. I am kind of a jack of all master of none. LOL

and there's always the military...not that Im tryin to recruit you, but it's an option, and 20 sit-ups is enough to get you started...and you only have to sign for 3 years....of course half of that might be in afghanistan....pfftt....n/m, doesn't sound so appealing when I say it like that....

Tampa, FL :
Anchor Machine & Welding (small shop)
Detroit Tool and Die (small shop, nothing but precision work, you'll like this one the best)
Padgett Swann (small shop, BIG work, mostly prop shafts and ocean going vessel work (( not outside work )))

There are several shops here in Birmingham, AL that will hire you if you can answer teh standard BS questions at the door, just to have another talented guy in the shop ;)

Mississippi is dead to manufacturing.
Georgia, I dunno.
If/when oil prices go up again, see Texas.

We're happy in Alabama the Beautiful for now. Good luck ! :)

Carolina is dead for precision manufacturing. Nacreap lay off's ... heck I have Nascrap machinists making savage risers for me ... man they must be hating it. They're 2 miles from the lowes motor speedway too ... man that gotta burn. A jap wanna be cruiser ... not even a sport bike with a pretense of tech.
Cool.
Buddha.

What do you mean BOO NAVY? ! Hey we took care of those 3 bastards in a life raft the other day! Heck I thought they sould have used a MK48 ADCAP torpeado on their asses! Now that would have been a sight to see! My Sub launched a few of those back in the day, along with Tomahawk missils . What could a cop do in that situation besides throughing them a doughnut for a life ring! -- Jim  :2guns:

There are some hard core Navy pukes. Some that have been in places and positions that no one would envy.  Ever read 'Lone Survivor'?  That wasn't exactly a walk through an exotic port.  Marcus Lutrell  is a very lucky man in some ways and very unlucky in others.  (side note: anyone want to bet on how long the guys that killed his dog last in prison?)

Of Course...............We all know which branch had to be called in after the second extraction SEAL team was shot down...............

Army is always cleaning up the other guys' messes.

this could be the official "My regional FOOTBALL team is better than your regional football team" thread in 3,2,1

by comparing one instant in time to another

for no reason

and be re-hashed with much passion by fat guys that "USED TO PLAY BACK IN"

for infinity.

Yay futball. What a joke.

(insert whatever people like to get their panties in a wad about here in place of football)

I'd try to stay home if I could, the south is very different from the North in the way things are done. Not bad just different. Still small town attitude, we like what we like, sweet tea, hogs cooked on a grill all night with your friends hanging out. Brunswick stew in 50 gallon pots cooked all day. Basket ball is in our life blood, The ACC is the place to be, you've never seen a place like Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill when the ACC tourney is going. We always have someone going to the dance, Carolina, NC State or duke, oh yea there are the other guys.  NC State looks for qualified tool makers. We have the RTP, Research Triangle Park, many many business' that make computer chips and computers. It's like a silicon valley there. Money for us is good there.  Greensboro NC is growing fast, If you had some school for biology we have Glaxo Smith Kline, and a few drug makers moving here. One company hires at 60k a year starting out but they are very hard to get on with. It's not too bad here, no unions though, we don't likem, we think thats why the car industry is failing, to make thirty $ an hour to hang a door with the help of pneumatic lifting is a joke to us. Just try priming tobacco once in your life and you'll see why we think that way.  It's not too bad in NC but education will be to your benefit.  Good luck, hope you lnd on your feet.  If your determiined to come south find a map of the state, see the county, look for the county seat and the city there in,then find their employment security commission, thats the job hiring industry for that city, ESC.  Again good luck.  You might try Charlotte NC, the Queen city, 2nd to wall street and growing still.

As far as small town livin goes. I live in a town of about 200 people. Where I was a cop. I never did stick or hang tobacco but I did detasle corn every summer for about 7 years. The famer the next field over had tobacco but he had like 20 kids so they kept their work in the famliy. Which sucked couse his girls where HOT. All of us teenage guys tried gett'n jobs over there. I'm not big on Bball we like football. GO VOLS!!!! I will check out the ESC. I'm try'n to find a job where pride in a job well done means more than the almighty dallor.
thanks a bunch.
