Title: heated grips and enduro hand protectors
Post by: dorris1988 on April 20, 2009, 02:49:38 AM
I know heated grips can be fitted but has anyone tried fitting enduro hand guards to a gs? I know it may sound stupid but I'm thinking of fitting this combo for the when the weather starts to become cold and miserable again. Thus to keep the wind off my hands and keep them warmish. I have hand mittens but tbh I don't like them very much.

Another thing you might think about is a pair of Hippo Hands (http://hippohands.com/Hippo%20Hands.htm). There are also cheaper and not quite as good alternatives known as Handle Bar Gauntlets or something like that. These will be quite a bit warmer than just the guards.

:confused:yeah i have mitts that are fleece lined. they are good just annoying putting them on and off all the time. gunna get heated grips soon and see how they hold up. but they will be pointless without some form of cover to stop the cold airflow slapping against my hands wont they??

Well, down to around 40-50*F you'll probably be fine with just the grip heaters. As it was mid-40's this morning and my hands were fine with just the heaters turned on but at a higher setting (I have Oxford Heaterz heated grips with a electronic  controller). But with the hippo hands blocking the cold wind, you can have the grip heaters on at a low setting and your hands will be warmer. That guy has some more info & reviews from other people on his site about the hippo hands. His also have a sheet of plastic to keep the back open so you can move your hands in & out without the cover collapsing. I normally put mine on in November and leave them on until March or April of the next year as I ride most all year long.

I've seen photos of GS's with DL1000 (Vstrom) hand grips. They would keep the wind off and not look too bad either!
