Title: Bikes in the SV1000 range?
Post by: Train on April 20, 2009, 06:59:34 AM
Hi All-

Out of curiosity, if one were interested in an SV1000, (which apparently is a hell of a bike with inexpensive insurance and plenty of power for touring), are there other bikes that should be compared as well? It looks like a guy can get a nice SV1000 with roughly 10,000 miles around $4k. I was initially interested in the 650, but based on folks comments around here the 1000 is a much, much better bike. Thoughts? What other machines fit this bill (insurance costs, size, tourability, quality, price, etc.)?

Might also wanna consider the Honda VFR 800, great touring machine with a good sporty ride yet still tourable.

SV1000 is in a class all by itself.
I'd put the 919 honda, the FZ1 yamaha, B650/1250 suzuki and maybe the 650R kawi ... maybe ...
BTW there is a place in new york selling a new 03/04 a few weeks ago for 6K.
I also know of 1 in OH new 07 for 7200.
Cool.

I'm no expert but I'll throw in the Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom.

Same (very good) engine than the SV1000, taller, bigger, more touring-oriented.
Don't know about weight, I jumped on a 650 some time ago and didn't seem too heavy.
(And I must be honest, I don't even know if the 1000 is actually sold across the Ocean.)
