Title: requirement changes
Post by: jserio on April 20, 2009, 08:57:17 AM
finally got a notice from unemployment office. since i'm going to college now and they approve of what i'm training for, i don't have to actively seek work anymore.   :woohoo:

Lots of people still work while they attend college.

I don't know you...I know nothing about you...and I wish no ill will towards you...but...I will never accept a handout from the government. Ever.

i wasn't trying to imply that i will not take work if it comes my way. i'm just glad that they government has one less thing to hold over my head. one less hoop to jump through to get my unemployment. (which i paid in for the whole time i was working.)  :thumb:

Hey, I'm glad you're not begging for money on a street corner (I assume) and I'm glad you're you're not starving.

I've been paying money into unemployment for 20 years. I look at it like I look at Social Security...money I'm paying out that I likely will never see again. So be it.

I hope that college brings you future success. Though I'll still never accept charity from the government, I'm OK with asking for a loan when you're wealthy... :)

i don't consider myself asking for a loan/charity from the government. i consider it a loan/charity from my fellow americans just long enought to get me back on my feet. now, should i be able to find work i will make every attempt to be gainfully employeed and continue my college education.  :thumb:

The problem with that argument is if you asked me personally for a loan then I could decide for myself whether to give it to you. By taking a loan from the government you are accepting a loan that was taken from me (via taxes) without my choice. If I decide not to pay my taxes then the Government can send friendly ARMED people to my house to persuade me. That is one of the reasons I do not accept government help. I don't really want anything from anyone...except free motorcycle advice, of course.

but, at the same time, i paid in the same taxes as yourself. maybe not for as long, maybe not as much, but i did pay them. so in a sense, tis kinda money that's mine anyways.

OK. I'm not questioning your integrity for using unemployment benefits. I'm happy that you are working to improve yourself. I'm willing to bet you end up contributing more in the future for the next guy that needs help. :thumb:

from what i hear, things differ from state to state. alot of states have been so flooded with claims, they just don't have the funds to pay them or the staff to process them fast enough. i wasn't trying to be high n mighty in my post cafeboy, i'm just relieved that i'm eliminated one of the hoops i've got to dance through to get my claim.

I'll give you $15 when I get my abstract or post-impressionist painting. I'm saving a spot in the bathroom for it. :)

I don't know it this helps any or not, but there is a new Mars dog food plant being built in Ft. Smith AR.

Supposed to start taking apps in may and go operational in Sept.

There is an aptitude test that has to be taken before they will take your app.

No, I don't work for them. I make Baby Food.  :thumb:
