Title: Wobbly Needle Speedometer Fix?
Post by: stormchaser on April 22, 2009, 03:40:40 PM
Hey how do u fix a wobbly needle on the speedometer. I've tried oiling up the cable leading from the front tire, but still came back.  Sometimes for the first 45 min riding the speedometer works fine then starts wobbling especially at high speeds 65 - 95. Under 40 mph no wobbling.

Is the cable screwed in tight, and not cross threaded, to the back of the speedometer?

I don't think so. I'll check. The speedometer has done it for the past five years. Just getting tired of it. But it seems worse when the bike's been running for awhile

What have you been oiling it with. Sounds like a binding cable to me.  Is the cable routed correctly?  You might need to use some good grease instead.

I've had that problem with a broken cable on previous bikes.  The pieces rubbed enough to work, but jumpy.  Every time I've had a broken speedo cable it breaks an inch or two from the front wheel.
