Is anybody in a club? I've been asked to join one but it all seems kinda over the top right now. I know two of the guys and they are super.....but wow I ride a GS. There are a couple of Harley's and some metric cruisers in this one....one of the Harley guys is complaining already about my GS and I haven't even met him!! LOL! Funny thing is i'm pretty sure my GS will keep up fine.
Your GS will keep up and will make the HD piss through the back streets......why you think he is complaining.
I have been a member of several bike clubs and they are all different.
Some are laid back go for a ride and have fun. Some have so many riding rules it is hard to remember them, some unless you have the latest fastest heavy moded bike don't want to know you. Some only ride "Pace" and will not accept you as a member unless you CAN ride pace and keep up.
End of the day you need to find a club that suits your ride style. Go to a couple of their meets and mingle to see what sort of people they are first and what ride conditions they ride under.
Don't worry about it, I think your GS will handle fine :thumb:
I'm not a member of an actual bike club, but a local forum, whenever someone is gonna go for a ride,l we post up and if anyone else wants to come along, we're all welcome. generally when mostly everyone is there we ride like 2 groups, the faster group, and the slower group. faster waits for the slower ones at any turnoffs. I am always somewhere in-between the 2 groups.
I'm not a motorcycle club member, and mean no disrespect to anyone who may be a member of one here, but I dont like motorcycle clubs much. sure the peopel can be cool and all that, but honestly, I dont need that deep a commitment to another family. many of us ride to enjoy the world, and relax, joining a club, will change this immensely, as you now have another family to be a part of.
be prepared to spend a LOT of your free time with your new brothers and sisters, if you join a motorcycle club. they're very dedicated people, and every group I"ve me, will take care of their own. most of the biker clubs are great people, even if they do give you a hard time about whatever you ride for some reason. Personally, biker clubs arent for me, but thats me.

Ditto. I went on a few rides with a local club and it wasn't my cup of tea either.
I havent joined one and dont know if I am. We have a few clubs around here but they are mostly regualted by the Banditos and from my experience the members are mostly lean towards the extreme side of riding and im not ready for that. I do have friends that I will ride with though, so thats good. Like it has been said, hang witht the clubs a little and decide then, if not there are always people who want to ride with a group but dont want to be in a club.
I'm not part of a club, but there is a large group here that does regular rides. If you're not really looking for a club, but just peopel to ride with, try meetup.com. There's a large albuquerque motorcycle riders group (like 200+ people). they post rides once or twice a week and depending on the ride, anywhere from 5-30 people will show up.
There are all kinds of people and bikes. Everyone just likes to ride, they don't care what it's on. One guy has a trike, one guy is too old to ride so he drives his convertible, there are harleys, BMWs, japanese bikes, etc.
The other great thing is you ride when you want to and at the pace you want. You don't have to go to X number of rides or outtings... you can simply join a ride and go.
That might be more your cup of tea, i know it is mine.

+1
I joined 3 groups on meetup.com and I think they're great. Members are not all about the "family" thing and basically they just want to ride and have fun.
Just read the group rules to find out what pace they travel etc.
cheers
i dont ride with any clubs, but all the HD clubs in town, the cossacks, the iron pigs, and los carnales always invite me to go with them. bbqs parties rides all of them are cool dudes, i just prefer solo riding.
Watch out for those banditos history channel just did a show on them called GANGLAND was quite informative and I don't know how biased the show was but from what I saw on that show I was a little skeered to say the least. They are a 1%er club.
Bout the only group I ride with is the CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) we will meet up at Old Town on Thursday Night's talk with folks on what we're about and we have a chaplain that blesses bikes and gives you a decal. Been a while since I was able to ride with them but we also have the Fast Lane which is the Sport Bike wing of the CMA which caters to the sports crowd!
I like to ride with friends and solo. www.cmausa.org is where you can find your local chapter.

I to am a member of C.M.A. A great bunch of guys to hang out with.
I don't think I am going to join. I really don't have time to devote to this sort of club w/ officers, meetings, all that. These guys, no one has kids, they just hang out together after the work week. Which is cool, I did that for quite a while. I'll just try to catch up with them for a ride when I can.
I love my local motorcycle forum since theres always a group of people willing to go for a ride anytime you post up that you're wanting to go.
it never hurts to know if theres a local rider's forum in your area to meet new riders and have friends to chill with.
I did ride with the Charlotte chapter of CMA but not any more.
Will not say bad things about that chapter but we just didn't see things the same way.
Is that the Bandito's out of Shrevesport, LA?
I ride with O.S.R. - Ontario Sport Riders.... awesome group of guys & girls. We ride street/track/dirt.
These days I am getting as much out of online forums as I do from the clubs I belong to. I don't bother with the local clubs here as they are all heavily H-D oriented, and I am not. They are also full of old guys who bore me. I am in the VJMC as I like older bikes the best, and they are pretty good but the USA members are too spread out over the country to do a whole lot with. My '89 is almost eligible to be vintage as it hits 20 years old.......
Forgot to say that I used to be in the AMA as well for about 10 years, but that was so H-D and cruiser oriented too that I abandoned it - plus the subs went up $10 each year, or something close to it. They weren't doing anything remotely related to the kind of riding I was doing, and still aren't. I am not quite sure who they represent, really.
