Title: Oil Problems....HELP!
Post by: Craig on September 28, 2003, 07:23:27 AM
While attempting to change out my oil filter I ran into a very unexpected problem. I will try to explain this as best I can to any of those of you out there that may be able to help me.

I had drained the oil and swapped out the filter for a new one and everything was going fine. But, I ran into trouble when putting the cover for the oil filter back on. I was tightening the last bolt and the damn thing broke - not the cap that you screw on, but the actual threaded structure attatched to where you put the oil filter into. I am assuming it is welded to a more major engine strucure, but am also hoping it is not a very costly or timely fix. Anyone out there ever have this problem and know how to fix it, or have any suggestions on how I go about doing so.

All shops in the area are closed as it is Sunday and I can not afford to be without the bike for an extended poriton of time. Being without it monday will be a pain in itself.

Please help if you can.

oh man i had the same problem 2 weeks ago. did i freak out. but it was no sweat at all once you get the bolts. i went to a hardware store and got the replacments and then to my local bike dealer to get some oil, adn out of curiousitly asked if they sold the bolts, they did so i bougth 3 for future snaps.    but the only tricky part was getting them back in after i got them out. becuase the exhuast gets in the way. timely but easy ;)  dont worry your not alone :thumb:
