Title: Trouble starting, won't stay running
Post by: PachmanP on April 23, 2009, 06:38:54 PM
I'm having trouble getting the darn thing running.  It has been sitting for about a month while I got money and parts after dumping it, although it was exhibiting the initial problem within a week or two of the crash.  Problem may be due to hosing the bike down after crashing to get the dirt off as it started and I rode home after the crash, but I don't know.  Anyways, here's the symptoms:
Would only start with choke on, then would die as soon as I took the choke off no matter how long it had to warm up.  Also, noxious/gassy exhaust.
Today I started futzing with the idle speed control.  Now, it runs when the choke is off, but at 3-4k rpm for maybe 30 seconds then just slows down and dies.
Also, it will only start if I have the choke on and the throttle open (which makes no sense...).  I think this is new.

Anyways, I was hoping somebody might have an idea as to what's going on before I just start tearing into the carbs all willy nilly.
Thanks!

Water and/or stale gas ... maybe a flooded airbox.
Cool.

Flooded airbox.  Pulled it out...realized it has a drain hose...put it back together and it ran just fine.  Thanks
