Title: Surface rust on my chain
Post by: Skeets on April 24, 2009, 10:04:33 AM
I was wondering how to get the surface rust off my chain..I tried using a rag and chain cleaner, got most of it off, but not all. I then tried using a toothbrush and it didn't work. What do you guys recommend to get rid of surface rust that being tricky???

Thanks..

Get a soft brass brush and use wd-40, you'll get all of it off.

Would steel wool work?

It would work but a scotch pad would be a little easier on the metal. The rough part of a dish pad works as well.  :thumb:

Steel wool and scotch brite would work but pads are slower and can't reach into the inner links like a brush can. And pads are overall messier.
