Title: Repaint project
Post by: bobob5511 on April 24, 2009, 01:00:01 PM
I'm looking at repainting my bike this summer, any tips on what paint products to use? I have a '93 GS 500E, red. I'm thinking of going black and maybe gold rims/frame/decals

if you like flat black...i used krylon flat black on mine, works awesome. just sanded off the ugly yellow and spray painted it black. Unless you're looking for something a little more expensive...

Do a search - a lot of folks have done various complexities of repainting with varying quality of results, and you can choose which one fits your anal-retentiveness level the best.

I just used the 99 cents cans of spray paint from walmart.  If your really worried about the results then get it done professionally.  I would say that 85% of the results will depend on the prep work and 10% will depend on the products you use.

Rattle cans can give great results, its all in the prep!

Do you have any equipment to spray it yourself like air compressor, spray gun, inline air filter? Paint is pretty cheap, probably 20-50 for a quart of paint and another 50 buck for the clear coat kit (clear coat, hardener), and 10-20 for reducers for paint. A small 30 gal compressor is good enough for small job.
