Title: stuck in neutral
Post by: joepua on April 25, 2009, 10:28:47 PM
Hey everyone,

Here's what I've been experiencing on my GS...
Basically if I'm sitting at the lights and I know that it will be a long one, I put the bike in neutral and let go of the clutch...

Now, sometimes, when im ready to go, I clutch in and try to shift down, but the damn shifter won't shift into first... it will stay in neutral... Usually I just let go of the clutch and just try again and that usually works.. but what can be causing this? or is this normal since the bikes not in motion and its harder to change gears when its not in motion..

It's normal. Mine does it once and a while. I just move a little forward and it goes right into gear.

Yeah its normal.  Like J said just move it a little forward (or back) and it will go right in.  Dont worry to much about it.

Like the above to posters have said, it's normal.

Put light pressure down on the shift lever until it stops and hold it there while you push the bike forward or back with your other foot.

Fixed - Bob!

I see this with many bikes, particularly bmw's.  I tend to hold down on the shifter and slowly release the clutch lever till it engages.  Will usually pick up as soon as you touch the friction zone.
