Title: Removing speedometer from gauge plate....
Post by: TurkeyChicken on April 26, 2009, 09:52:45 AM
Alright, so I'm putting a new gauge plate on my GS500... I got the plate with the speedometer and tachometer removed.  I got the tachometer taken out of the gauge plate... but the speedometer has the little odometer reset knob so it's not coming out of the plate.  It's an angle issue.

My question is, what do you have to remove to get this thing out?  The two mounting bolts?  I couldn't figure out how to loosen them.  The odometer knob itself?  I didn't want to break it and then have to buy a new speedometer.

Here are some pictures to show the situation:

There is a tiny crosshead screw down the center of the reset. Shine a torch down there and you will see it. Undo it with the smallest crosshead driver you can find and the the reset will just pull off.....be careful with the screw, drop it and its gone forever.

Great, thanks.  I had to go buy a new screwdriver skinny enough to fit in there.

Gotta love having a Harbor Freight less than 2 miles away.
