Anyone else a member? BP, you a fan of the shoulder rig.Hawaiian shirt or do you go IWB?
Yes I am a hawaiian wearer. I carry strongside hip at 3 to 3:30, I don't like shoulder holsters. Presenting a weapon to the front butt forward makes me a little nervous since if the confrontation starts physical it gives the BG control of the butt of your weapon if they just reach out and grab it. From a wepon retention standpoint strong side hip IWB is the best way to go allowing any potential BG only one point of contact. I also carry owb it's also the fastest draw stroke another failing of the shoulder holster slow to draw, don't carry kydex owb though carry leather only kydex breaks especially if your BG can get 2 points of control and twist.
I have sewn a couple of large stainless steel washers into the front corners of my hawaiian shirt tails to weight the corners when I go to clear the shirt it makes it swing back better and provides some resistance to wind blowing the shirt open.
I'm waiting on the IWB rig from rafter S gunleather I ordered for my full size at the last gun show but I carry para P10 in one and it's a nice carry rig.
FYI the reason I wear hawiian shirts even IWB is beacuse it also conceals a double mag carrier with 2 spare mags and a tac light as well as a straight blade knife.
lol wtf? are you speaking english? lol
certain cognoscenti would understand the language contained within this post, it is most certainly english specifically red blooded second amendment american.
Terry is referring to the wearing of Haiwaiian print camp shirts as cover garments in realtion to concealed carry of weapons and the multiple methods of their carry.
I too am an Hawiian shirt wearer.

Do the washers make noise if they bush against something or do you sew them into a seam edge so that the fabric muffles any contact?
Sew em into the seam edges. :thumb:
hahah I first read this and wondered if there was in fact a club of people who wear hawaiian print shirts!
BG = Bad Guy? yes? no? :dunno_black:
i'm on to you!!!
You got it LOUiE! :thumb:
I like the shoulder holster style, with my build and a well thought out wardrobe I can very easily conceal a full frame 1911. I just ordered a 5.11 holster shirt from the NRA store (got a discount in the mail) and while I don't expect it to be perfect for the 1911, I've heard great things about it with the Glock 36 I'll most likely be buying VERY soon.
I picked up 100rds of .45 this evening. Tried to pick up 400rds, but the owner was there and didn't want to sell more than 100 to any individual, the employee that rung me up told me to come back in the morning and pay in cash and I could buy as much as I want. I may drop the hammer on the 36 when I go back.
Ha, hang out on more gun related forums and you'll understand every word they speak of. It'd be like me on a linux forum. :technical:
A local tourist trap shop was clearing old stock out so I bought 4 generic Hawaiian shirts. Now I just have to figure out which button will work best to snip off and sew on the outside flap.
Ammo is getting ridiculous around here private individuals and pawn shops are buying it up in bulk when it hits the retailers shelves then turn around ands sell it for an excessive premium :icon_rolleyes: I'm all for free market but oppurtunistic gouging is ridiculous the last thing we want is the fed getting involved in price controls. I just ordered 1500 rounds of .22lr so when we go camping next month we'll have ammo for the plinkers. I haven't been able to find any reasonable .22 here for 2 months now. Local guy on a shooters forum bought his kid a rifle for christmas, the kid was gonna spend $75 of his saved allowance to buy 300 rounds of .22... all of us locally broke into our stashes and sold him a brick at cost for like $25, Anyone one with a kid or grandkid locally can pick up 100 rounds off of me for my cost is what I've posted it's insane you can't take your kid shooting because the store doesn't have any .22 on the shelf. >:(
I scoreed a sweetheart deal on some .45 brass 1000 rounds once fired for $25 now if I can find large pistol primers I would be good to go. Gonna take about 1K with me camping so I can work on dynamic movement and shooting and draw and shoot from concealment. Most of our ranges are FUD run and have a 3 second between shots rule and no shooting on the draw...etc.. and the range we do have that does allow that is way beyond my price range.
As far as the shoulder rig, you need to get an airsoft and do some real force on force rolling around/simmunition training with your carry gear to evaluate your carry decision. Even wrapped up I can still makle a strong side draw under most circumstances where you can't reach crossbody. Shoulder holsters look cool thats about it. And I conceal a fullsize on the strongside all the time.

Gonna do the velcro attachment I take it? My wife found me some locally got em for my bday back in march :) then I ebayed 1/2 a dozen for $35 really nice linen jobbers too.
Yup, I went into Michaels (shudder) and picked up some velcro today. I've got a few Haagar prep shirts that make me look like I should be driving a BMW that I'll probably modify too, they're pretty poofy so should be OK for CC.
I'm really interested to see how this 5.11 shirt works out. I'm thinking I'll either be incredibly pleased or hate it, can't see a real middle ground.
The club I joined is pretty laid back, just don't endanger anyone and you're good to go. I was getting a pretty mean little double tap going at one point. I love the place. A standard 25yd pistol range, a tactical range, a 100-200-300 rifle range, a skeet range, a go kart track, a fully stocked pond, large stone grill, plenty of room to camp.
.22 and .22lr is EVERYWHERE HERE (my local WM has 1000+ of both), as is almost every rifle round except .223.
I've done some drills with a shoulder holster and my next most natural carry is a drop leg which is out of the question, we aren't an open carry state. I've just never been comfortable with an IWB or OWB, belly/back holster are absolutely ridiculous and an ankle holster works but adds an unnecessary and potentially dangerous step. I really wish we would just go to open carry (there's a bill before the state legislature to allow it right now) so I could break out my black hawk drop leg. If I'm that close, the gun isn't going to be my first choice, it would most likely be the razor sharp spyderco in my pocket. Being that close to me is a pretty big danger zone, you're much safer at punching distance. My punches suck, but if I can get a hold of something solid I can rip it off.
Glad you don't like the SOB carry, 1 slip and fall and you have back trouble or paralysis for life that way. Tulsa County alchohol beverage licensing enforcement agents are sworn law enforcement and can carry if they qualify. I know of one who like a dumbass drove 1/2 way across the state with a j-frame revolver in a SOB hoster and 5 years later he still had major back problems.
Is that it? Are we the only 3 Spc, Porkchop and I?????
I think so, :cookoo:
Hey BP, what's your washing machine think of those washers sewn in? UPS says I'll have my package Friday, just in time to hit the range this Saturday and get used to it.
Picked up another 200rds of .45 at Mission Essential in Hinesville. They have some GREAT prices so I'm going to end up buying my G36 there. 515+tax brand new.
Looks like just you three carry. But I'm reading.
Thinking of getting a permit. Just don't have time ATM.
BeSafe
i qualled 2 weks ago. have 2 weapons atm. a taurus pt22. in an ankle holster, and a walther p1 in a shoulder rig. am wantgin a 1911 o f some sort. or a 40 cal of some sort. idk yet
I am a Hawaiian Shirt wearer as well, only have a small collection but still love to wear them over a t-shirt.
And since holsters came up i am looking for a good waist or shoulder holster but haven't found much that i like. I have a ruger p90 .40, anyone with a similar sized weapon have any ideas, i would prefer a composite holster to leather. Good web sites suggestions?

See if rafters makes them for your ruger. http://www.raftersgunleather.com/Holsters.htm
My thoughts on Kydex. If you are using it IWB it's fime. OWB it's a very poor choice google for videos of kydex OWB holsters and see what happens if a BG ever gets 2 points of control on your weapon. Kydex breaks extremely easily. If you want a kydex IWB try the comptac minotaur... sorry cant post a link to them works content filter in general doesnt allow gun related websites.
As far as the washing machine terry what i have done is stitched the interior flap closed to form a 1" tall pocket on the inside seam and I drop the washers in the top of the pouch I have them wrapped in fabric tape so they provide friction in the pocket and just pull em out and drop em in my next days carry shirt when I throw my shirt in the laundry. I found permanantly sewing them in was a bad idea the washer and dryer action caused them to wear through the shirt material, kinda like carrying a can of copenhagen in your back pocket does to jeans.
You guys aren't the only ones out there. I'm working on my CCW permit for TN. Just not had a free weekend when they were giving the classes. I had a license for WV, but now that I live here and my drivers license changed I have to get a new permit.
As for carry. I've carried my CZ P-01 mexican style a couple times. Don't usually take anything but my SOG knife out and about. The CZ is usually kept in the truck. I've not gotten a good holster for it yet. I need to work on that. I'm planning on getting a Kahr CW9 with a nice IWB holster as a carry piece. It looks like it should make a nice packable weapon and I'm pretty happy with 9mm.
I'm not too sure if I can pull off the Hawaiian shirt look. Think I'll just stick with my button ups.
Chris
I'm doing an advanced course in the AM. Gotta be there at 0730.
BP, all it takes on a kydex is 1 good POC, palm out between the person and the weapon to break a and acquire. The 5.11 shirt came today. I played around a little and it seems like it will be functional with the 1911, but ideal when I get the G36 or something just a hair smaller. Going with a cheap ass Uncle Mike's IWB for tomorrow because they only allow WB holsters :icon_confused:
CStilit. Not a big fan of 9mm, but everyone has their own preferences. SOG dissappointed me a few years back. I bought a flash II and it was a great knife, retained the edge very well, easy action, etc. Then the blade got a little play, then a little more, then it got to about .5cm on each side measured at the tip and I called em and they told me to F Off. It's not like I used it to pry shaZam! (got a Ka-Bar for that) just normal use.
I've used the he!! out of my spyderco and only sharpened it a few times in the nearly 3 years of use. Still shaving sharp and 0 play in the blade. It's a feat to catch me without that or my new little edged toy.
Most of my Hawaiians are non-traditional in that their pattern tends to be darker, it helps visibly diminish and printing and I don't do well with light colored clothing.
Anyone done the Non-resident New Hampshire CCW? Apparently you can just apply for the damn thing regardless of where you live and they have reciprocity with 20 states or so. (a lot of which SC does not)

if yoy find out any more info about this. let me know. tn has a bunch of states which allow my permit to be valid there as well. not sure about fla or not . reason i say that is before too long i want to take a short vacation there
Yama, this may help with figuring out what states you can carry in with a TN permit: http://www.state.tn.us/safety/handgun/reciprocity.htm When I was moving I checked all the states I'd be driving through to make sure I'd be legal.
SPC, My main reason for a 9mm is cheapness of ammo and gun size. I wanted something that would be thin for when I was wearing just a Tshirt and shorts. I've heard good things about the CW40 and 45 though. May look into those too. Although having two guns in the same caliber makes getting a lot of cheap ammo easier.
I hate to hear your SOG messed up and they told you that. That's the model I carry and it's been to hell and back with me. Used it for everything from skinning deer to working on cars. Still no issues with it. I hear spyderco are amazing tools, I've thought having my friend who's a knife dealer order me one but never gotten around to it.
FL allows you to get their permit if you're a non-resident with proof of training. They have reciprocity with a quite a few states.
Never touched an SOG after that. Spyderco does make a great knife and VG-10 holds a blade incredibly well. So far, my Chris Reeve knife has been EXCELLENT! I love the thing.
Well, I'm tired, hungry and smell like gun powder.........I'm gonna get some chow, bathe and get some sleep.
Guy here locally got his florida non resident... in 9 months, Utah is the way to go if you can find someone teaching the Utah non resident class in your area. It's inexpensive, were talking like $60 for your permit and $30 renewals if I remeber right and fast processiing something like 30 to 45 days from doorstep to doorstep. Yeah SC sucks I have family there we need to go visit but although oklahoma honors your permit SC does not honor oklahoma permits or any non-resident permits.
Yama this site has their stuff together regarding reciprocity.
http://www.handgunlaw.us/
I'm up briefly and then going back to sleep. Planning on hitting the gym at 0500 and then my range afterwards ~1000. Probably just put 50rds down range and shoot a little skeet.
I'm not sure which state I'm going to get my 2nd permit through. As I recall, FL is a shall issue, 30day state. Shall issue provisions apply to ALL applications. He should have been calling a Senator and bitching like hell. Of course, if there was even the slightest thing wrong in his paperwork and they kept sending it back............
SC is one of the toughest SI states, there are only a dozen or so that require a very specific course curriculum for CCW and we have reciprocity with them.
Regardless, you have the right to keep the weapon in the glove box, transport it to a range openly, etc.
If you get down here, let me know. You're welcome to come on out to the club I belong to, though it's about 1.5hrs outside of Charleston.
At the course, my instructor carried a commander sized Para. It was a nice weapon, but not noticeably better than the RIA. He was actually pretty impressed with my RIA, might have helped that I was one of the only one's there who knew what PMCS stands for. He let me put a few rds through the Para and let me borrow his Blackhawk Serpa holster. I felt comfortable with the OWB position, but hated that holster, the lock gave me non-stop issues. I think I'm going to look for a nice leather O/IWB. On the plus side, he couldn't score my target because the entire center was gone and there were only 5 shots outside of that big ass grouping. The target was on a semi-random program and ranged from 7-20yds. It was a blast, but because of the 'ammo shortage' (I'm not short :icon_mrgreen: I've got 500rds in my can right now and 3 full mags) they shortened the range time to 100rds from 250 :icon_confused:
I was in Charleston today and stopped by a Burlington Coat Factory. They had a few nice Hawaiian's dirt cheap, so I bought 2.
You've had trouble with your p10 right? They've got one at a local shop pretty cheap (550) that I've been thinking about over the G36. I'm going to take my time figuring out which compact to get, hell the RIA isn't that hard to conceal.
My P10 was badly abused, it took a complete new upper end, slide, barrel, bushing, link, guide rod/spring assembly to correct it. It shoots great now. Like all sub 4" 1911 pattern guns it's finicky about ammo though. It does not like ball ammo or rounded ogive profile hollow point loads. As you know normal break in is to run 200 to 500 rounds of ball through a pistol and when I got it back from para it wouldn't run the ball ammo for crap. In a fit of frustratiuon I loaded a mag up with my reloads 185 grain winchester XTP HP which have a sharp triangular ogive and it's eaten 500 rounds of that without a single hiccup. But it still doesn't like ball or the 200 grain corbons. If it's a new Para P10 it should be fine. Like I said I got suckered on a gun that had issues cosmetically it wasn't great and it had hidden issues, plus the new ones have a lifetime warranty unlike the older ones.
see my link to rafterSgunleather. Della and her husband make the wilsons combat holsters for wilsons, wilsons just charges twice as much for them to put their stamp on them I have one of the IWB's for the P10, my OWB for the fullsize is a Gould and Goodrich.
OK, I'm buying .45. If anyone has BULK amounts for sale let me know. I need 2500rds before July.
f%$king Bastard at the local shop let me fire a 9mm HK USP they just took on consignment :2guns: <3" shot group at 15yds the first time I fired. :cookoo: I want it, BAD. I may crack and pick it up, it's only 600.
Either way, I need 2500rds of some size before the end of july. I paid my fees and am going to tromp around the mountains up in NC :thumb: It's my Bday present to myself.
What's this in NC you're talking about? I'm a fan of anything that takes 2500rds and mountains. Plus I'm just across the NC state line in TN.
Can you get the HK in a 45, or would you be content with a 9mm?
I think I'd be content with the 9mm, though if a similarly priced .45 popped up I'd jump on it.
The Moyock training center for Blackwater does a ton of open courses including 'Tactical Pistol I & II' I'm doing TPI. It's 5, 10-12hr days shooting and some classroom time. After that, with some references I have, I should be able to get into their operator course. The Tac Pistol courses run $1k in tuition and they can help you get the ammo if need be.
holy crap that would be one hell of a fun time! 5 10-12 hour days of shooting?!
I know what I need to start saving up for now...
Way things are going now. I belive the ammo for the course would be almost as much as the course itself.
Yeah, even getting it at cost in .45 would be like $750-800.
I can't freakin wait, I've gotta make sure all my gear is ready and figure out what I'm going to do with my current sidearm :dunno_white:
Oh, yeah, I'm getting the Series III LR. I drove it today and he's going to see if he wants to partial trade with my bike tomorrow. The thing is AWESOME!!!!!!!
