Title: SHAD racks and boxes
Post by: NMCE on April 27, 2009, 07:08:55 AM
Hey all,

I have seen a lot of good info on luggage for the GS500, and am looking to get a SHAD setup for my 2001.  The diagram in the instructions available for the topmaster rack shows a much more robust rack than the photos on some of the websites that sells SHAD.  Have any of you installed one of these topracks on a 2001 or newer bike, and any photos available?

Thanks!

Mary should be storming through the door anytime now on her crusade for the much needed   gear section.   :D

I however have no info on the topic, just pointing out the fact that this is another instance supporting Marys quest for a dedicated section.

[sarcasm]

Stop yer whining about a gear section. We got a track section recently...what more do you want? :dunno_white:

I just checked out the track section...wow..what a variety of useful, insightful topics. Noticed twelve (that's right...double digit) posts...

1-- The obligatory "Code of Conduct" thread.
2-- Basically duplicate threads thanking the moderators for making a track section.
6-- Various posts of varying interest related to racing.
1-- Post that did nothing but contribute to the future Carpal Tunnel Syndrome of the person typing it.
1-- Fairly interesting post. Sort of.
1-- And.....1 Post regarding gear. The nerve of that guy...

I rest my case. If that bounty of insightful track information doesn't speak for itself then nothing will.

Besides, its not as though people post gear questions in the General Forum. I haven't read a gear question for at least ummm 5 hours now. I WILL NOT REST UNTIL "WHAT KIND OF HELMET SHOULD I GET" POSTS EQUAL OR SURPASS "WHAT KIND OF OIL SHOULD I USE" QUESTIONS IN THE GENERAL FORUM.

To summarize, I think a track section was TOTALLY needed and gear is only necessary for soldiers and mountain climbers.

:icon_rolleyes:

[/sarcasm]

In defense of the site moderators I can understand them not wanting to create a thousand different forum topics...but...the "General" forum has 26,000 topics already. More focused sections might be easier to search and also might cut down on the duplicate topic posts. From my short time as a member of this site I have noticed (and I suppose, contributed to) an increasing amount of frustration with duplicate questions. The search function helps, but the overwhelming amount of information available often makes it difficult to find needed information.

Just my $.02

Oh yeah, what is a SHAD rack?

I just got a call today from my local SHAD retailer saying he shipped my rack and it should be here tomorrow. It is for a '94 though, so not directly relevant to your original post. I'll let you know what it looks like when it gets here though. I imagine that they only improved the design, so if the older style rack is good, I'd be willing to be the newer one is too.

SHAD is a Spanish company that makes racks and cases for motorcycles. They just started distributing in the US and they make stuff for the GS (both variants, which is cool). You can read about their topcases here:

I purchased a toprack and case for my 2002 GS500. I did a dry fit and it looks solid. The cycle is in the shop right now but will hopefully be putting it on this weekend along with a windscreen. I'll post some images when I get done.
