Well this question certainly gave me some nice insight into the world of motorcycle helmets, now what about jackets? Do you prefer leather or mesh with pads? What's your favorite brand? Do you match your jacket color with your bike? Do you ride all year long? How about multiple jackets?
I appreciate the feedback!
I have a full 2pc leather suit and a textile armoured jacket. IMO, you really can't beat the protection that leather gives in comparison to a textile. Its a trade off, textile = cooler, lighter, less protective... leather = hotter, heavier, most protective.
I just got my leather suit, so I'll be retiring my textile I think. Although, its more comfortable on those hot humid days to throw on the textile jacket just to run down to the store. I guess what I'm sayin is six of one, half dozen of the other... if yer just running errands or leisure around town, I'd go for a decent textile (I wouldn't trust mesh), if you're doing spirited riding, nothing less than leather...
I disagree with the existence of this thread...Its going to be nothing but redundant information. :technical:
its good to gather information befor buying gear , but you can really find the answer to all those questions by googleing them . There are a ton of write ups on all kinds of gear to help inform first time buyers of what to look for to fit there needs when buying your gear. Just take some time and such for it and you will find more then enough info on the web
I have a GxAir and like it alot. It is a combination of textile and leather. It protected me very well when getting nailed with road debris at 45mph in the shoulder! Altough, I seperated my shoulder from what the ER doc said it protected me from much much worse!

I've got a Cortech GX (Series 2) jacket, and its pretty good. It is really warm in the summer (anywhere above 65 really), but in the winter its great with the liner installed (I ride into November and clear days Jan/Feb). Looking back, I would probably try and go for a nice leather jacket.

this link will convince you to go leather or kevlar. Then just find a jacket that fits and has shoulder, back, and elbow protection.
Nobody plans on sliding across the pavement, but if you do you'll wish you were in leather (or kevlar if you've got lots of coin!)
I have Fieldsheer 2 piece textile. Both pieces have a removable liner which helps during colder weather. I typically only wear the pants when I am long rides.
I also have the Bohn Under Armor that I wear with jeans.
I just got a Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 because of my location I went textile...117 is too hot to wear leather imo.

this should be moved to the track/tack section or gear, whatever we're calling it. keep the gs stuff seperate from the 'everthing else'.
now then... buy leather. it's perforated and isn't as hot as people claim.
besides, skin costs about $1,000 per square inch.
Seee, if we had it my way this thread would have a home? I mean that track area is just burning up with threads! But, nope not doing full reviews for no one five hundred times any more. Then if more than one person had that item they could do their review and someone like the OP could just look through what we've written on and be given a goood idea. Instead we constantly get once a week or so what's the best helmet, jacket, pant, tank bag!
Off my soap box!

Speaking of tank bags... I got a pretty kick ass bag! Where should I write a review of it? General Discussion it is (cuz I'm not hi-jacking this thread) then it can be lost in the abyss forever by next week :D
Guess I just hi-jacked this thread anyway supporting Mary

its hot, you sweat, big deal, suck it up... I'd rather be hot & sweat than fall and have no skin left to sweat from... :icon_eek:
there, just redeemed my thread hi-jack :thumb:

Coretech GX-Air. :thumb:
I have a grey tight nite mesh jacket with leather on the arms, elbow pads, shoulder pads, back plate, and lumber plate/support and it has a removable liner to keep wind and water out if need be. The brand is power trip I think. I like it, it breaths really good unless in stop and go traffic, but then again shorts and no shirt would be just as uncomfortable in stop and go traffic. I dont have any full leather suits but I will invest in them when I start doing more spirited riding on track days (or when feeling madly insane :icon_twisted:)
What keeps me wearing the jacket, pants, shoes and a helmet is a quote I read somewhere (probably on here) "Sweat dries quicker than road rash, and its much less painfull"
I have a 6th gear leather jacket from the local suzuki shop. was only a little over a hundred bucks due to a 50% off sale will strongly recomand it to anyone. even in the eighties we'v had lately, it hasn't been too hot as long as you stay moving
i have both leathers and textile. I like the leathers on average but when it is wet or too cold i wear the textile.
an easy way to have Suzuki on you textile jacket is buy a badge like i did and sew it on the arm. Much cheaper alternative and it opens up the whole range of jackets available.
In terms of wear and protection you don't get as much wear issue with leather as you do with textile.
But as stated weight and overheating is the tradeoff for more protection. But if it is just a strong sun warmth once your going it is average temperatures again.

What is the go with health care in USA, i watched SICKO and that was interesting. Why hasnt it changed?
National Health Care is a great benefit to have.
Sorry i dont mean to Hijack the thread
Yes most of us here in the US wish there was national healthcare, but unfortunately we're more likely to switch to the metric system before nationalizing healthcare.
Yes, U.S health care sucks but I don't think Nationalized is the way to go. Had a friend in Canada have to wait a year to get a defibrillator implanted during that time had a SCA and almost died his family had bought an AED while waiting and thank God they were there and aware that it had happened.
If they could gaurantee me that instances like that would not happen and I can get healthcare at the speed that it is done here maybe I'd go for it. But, we have a member on here trying to get help through the health care system and he has to wait a month or two at a time to get into the health department because it is so backed logged. If the can't handle what they have now I don't have much faith they will be able to handle all of the U.S. and it's illegal immigrants (don't get me started on that) waiting four hours in ER waiting room chest pain with a heart problem cause the ER is filled with mainly illegals or those without insurance maybe 20% is usually an EMERGENCY!
Mary
don't look to Canada as an example of socialized health care. Look at the eurpoean countries. They've got it right.
Even if you wanna bash Canada's health care for being in adequate, you can't ignore that as a whole Canada spends far less per capita on health care, about half the US, and still have better overall health because of better access to medical care. With free access to health care people are not afraid to get preventative treatments before it spirals out of control and ends up clogging emergency rooms and costing far more than lower cost preventative treatment. It's a simple fact that 40% of people in the US do not have access to adequate health care. Medicine may not be top notch on our neighbors up north but more people have access to it. For me and many people like me, not rich, any healthcare is better than what we have now which is nothing, a severe illness will leave me broke and in debt for life. I have seen the cost of a broken leg bone for a friend reach $25,000 for treatment, and his insurance denied him cause they deemed it too expensive and would only cover the first $5000 because that's how much they figure it costs to fix a leg, so much for private insurance. And if anything recently has become far too apparent it's that deregulation of everything is seriously hurting the country, that include deregulating the financial industry and health care system. If you face the fact that if we could reduce medical costs through tighter regulation of this out of whack industry, current government spending could cover EVERYONE including the illegals, so we wouldn't even need to socialize medicine. But as for an article with a little more research and proof you only have to look up wikipedia. Oh yeah and one more point to make the US is the only industrialized nation to not offer some form of universal health care. So either we're the only one doing it right or were the only one doing it way wrong, I tend to side on the latter because after all the dust settles Canada is still healthier while spending less money than the US. Think about it this way, if you love the private sector so much, would you like the fire department to be private sector? Having to get preapproved for them to put out your house fire? And imagine having to purchase fire insurance. Face it fire, police, and public education is socialized but why the taboo on medicine?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_and_American_health_care_systems_compared
The Australian system is a bit different.
We have free health care and hospitalisations but you have to pay a small amount depending on your treatment. We get taxed a Medicare leverage from our net pay and it is substantial to the amount you earn.
A lot of people in Aus have private health care as well because you get to choose your surgeon and can go to a private hospital and there are more benefits. But if you get sick in aus it is very easy to get health care and there is rarely a surchage or gap to pay.
Cool. I learned a lot about leather vs. synthetic jackets AND socialized medicine in the same thread! :icon_mrgreen:
If I'm not mistaken I did say ours suck too? Honestly, there have been times I've preferred no medical care to substandared medical care. Getting shocked with a defibrillator and sent home an hour later for the three hour drive is not cool! It almost killed me well almost died earlier that day lets have a repeat. But, had a bleed from the catheterization and burn marks on my chest and back. If that is what substandard health care is then I don't want it! I went 3 weeks without health care during that time admitted for heart failure two weeks in ICU and 100,000 bill! So, basically it ruined my life.
I'd like to see good healthcare regardless of how it's done!
