I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a Boxster once insurance pays out on my 944. I found a '98 with all the right service records, silver exterior and Carrera red interior. Dirt cheap.
I also test drove an '00 S model at a dealership with a tag of 17k and an 05 Cayenne with a tag of 27k. The Cayenne sure beats the hell out of other SUV's I've driven, but just doesn't do it for me. Boxsters are pretty neutral cars (I believe they're 45/55) so handling is great as you would expect out of a Porsche.
BTW, they frown on breaking 100mph on a test drive :icon_rolleyes:
Ummmmmmmmmmmm ..............OK :tongue2:
WHAT!!! Your SoooOOOooo Ghey! Just kidding. How could any Porsche be "ghey"? Such a great car in every way! Sorry your having to deal with the insurance BS but at least you have a replacement. Congrats on the new Porsche in advance. Have fun on the twisties!!!
I've always been a fan of the boxster. I think the only reason they wouldn't give the earlier versions more oomph was because they were such a great platform that they were out-handling some of the 911's of the day. I'd risk seeming a little too metro for the pleasure of driving one.
It's funny you say that UBS, the sales guy said that the Boxster S I drove was actually faster than a 97 911 he had on the lot when It came down to the track. The boxster is just a little more neutral than older 911's.
Man I wish they'd hurry up and pay me, enterprise has me stuck in a POS toyota sienna and the Jag is waiting on critical parts. (Light control module caught fire in the trunk and took out half the rear fuse box) Anyone want to buy a Jag? It's time for that Buddha Loves You to find a new home.
depends on teh jag prices. ive driven a boxster s. ( friend of mine has one.) i had custody of it while he was in europe) thing is FUN to drive. but the engine is HELL to get to sometimes
I'd probably be looking for 5 for the Jag, but if you're truly interested Yama PM me and we can go from there. Boxsters have the same problem 911's do, almost any semi-major engine maintenance requires dropping the engine.
Oh, get something that slides. Get a Miata. Or if you need something overpriced, an Exige.
914. Elderly, prone to being rustbuckets, but they have the style that most Porsches don't.
Of course, you could get a boxer instead - say a nice /2 with a sidecar. :icon_mrgreen:
RG: the point of a sports car is for it NOT to slide. The boxster held it's ground at 75mph on some pretty tight stuff. MR is good. Besides, Miata's are uber ghey and Lotus is British, not making that mistake again.
DOD: I've checked out a few nice 914's and you're right they have some awesome style and at the least don't give such beatiful Porsche's as the 356 a bad name. I just don't want something that old right now. The boxster seems to be a good fit for me right now and when I get the Jag sold I'll probably buy an ML320 for range and camping duty.
I plan on owning a boxster some day... Great little cars :thumb: So long as you dont have a rainbow bumper sticker id say youll look plenty hetero driving it :icon_mrgreen:
They are great little cars as long as you don't get one with a crappy rear seal. Then you're talking dropping the engine and rebuilding it..........4-5k at most shops or a really long weekend in the garage.
The only thing that would hold me back from a boxster is a clean 86+ 951 for less than 6-6.5k. Those things can be tweaked to kill anything on the road. (A few companies offer cam/waste gate/ECU kits that clear 400rwhp and it's not unheard of to top 700 with an aftermarket turbo and obviously a head rebuild)
Yeah, a 400rwhp sub 3000lb car would be fun.
