Hey everyone,
my 2008 GS500F can reach 80km/h on second gear easy (at around 8000RPM), so i was wondering , shouldn't it be easy for it to reach 200 kms on 6th gear?? (Will try it some day i guess hopefully on track )
I know the tako comes with a 10% excess from the factory or so i heard but still it should be able to reach 200kms easily i think.
What's your thoughts on this ??
PS: My GS has around 1300 kms on it and is totally stock :)
Not easy. Not enough power to get you there without aerodynamics and tire modifications.
Off the side of a cliff with a run up and 2 up you might just get there otherwise no you won't, probably at best about 195kmh unless you gear it high and find a loooooong straight road :thumb:
Yeah, you're drag limited there. You'd need a whole shedload of extra power and better aerodynamics to pull that off. Good thing that is well above any speed limit you'll ever encounter...
Interesting , thanks for the replies guys :)
I'm still interested in trying that on a track to see what the top speed, any one care to share his top speed :whisper: ??
Poor little GS-F, looks like it's in for a hard fast life.

it's not really very fast. there are threads here and there... folks brag about 135 MPH, and other hard to believe things.
It's a 500 after all and not the fastest one for sure but definitely fast enough to get anyone out of trouble :)
I managed to do around 170km/h on my old ZZR-250 on a long straight but the poor thing was screaming like there's no tomorrow

I'm PRETTY sure we've had this thread recently enough. :technical:
Could we make this a "please explain why you give a f*ck about top speed" thread instead? Or maybe compare top speeds of lawn mowers or our favorite foods?
My human powered reel mower = 5MPH
Lasagne speed through body =~ 30ft / 40hr or 0.000142045455 miles per hour
If he really cared about top speed he would skip the GS and save his lunch money to buy a Busa.

I am TOTALLY not wanting to start "poop" here but there are 26,000+ threads under the general discussion area...are there really
ANY threads that haven't been started in the last year?
I've only been checking this site out for 2 months and a member for 1 and have seen a dozen carb rejet questions already...
This site is dedicated to the "Fisher Price My First Starter Bike"...unfortunately, "Obvious" questions should be considered par for the course. I think some members could exercise a little more patience with the new people. I would love to answer more of the newbie questions so that more veteran members don't have to...but I still don't know what the hell I'm talking about yet.
Oh, and if I ever meet fred, I'm buying him a beer...he has patiently answered countless of my ridiculous questions.
Yah wanna know how fast it goes?

Sept 16-19, 2009 - go have a blast. Safely, or as safely as you can, which is not very. She-ite goes wrong in a hurry when it goes wrong at high speed, and there's plenty of energy to make mincemeat of you if it does.
Right on Xeal, I second the fred thing-----and quite a few others here.
@ecpreston, what XealotX said :)

I have never ran at a track but i have always thought that even if your not getting the top speed the other bikes are getting the gs if ridden correctly can stil turn faster times if the track is tight and more technical. If your just looking for top speed regear the bike bigger front sprocket and/or smaller rear sprocket will get you more top with lower RPMs. Now on a track you chould gear accordingly to the longest straight and the slowest corner. say your running and in the straight your only getting to 5th gear and its still pulling to the point that you still dont need to shift try dropping a gear in the front or up 3 in the rear. This would get you a bit more torque in the lower gears(better pull outta the corners and keep the bike up in the rpms) just my .02

me too
Yeah, sorry, I know there are a few here with infinite patience. I don't know how they do it, but it's certainly cool that they do! :dunno_white: Every now and then I just can't stop myself. But really, if there's a big thread or threads about a simple topic, AND it's mentioned in the wiki, I guess I just don't understand why someone would want to start a new thread.
Fastest gps verfied I've seen on mine is 117 mph, converted it is 188 kph. I weigh only 130 and was in a complete tuck for a long time to reach that speed, had pumped up tires too since I usually over inflate a bit to save gas and minimize tire wear. So trying to reach 124 (200 kph) may be feasible if there was a convenient tailwind. But my gps verified top speed was in dead air and flat ground so I think it's a pretty safe assumption that you won't see 200 kph normally.
@ecpreston, as XealotX mentioned earlier, there's around 26,000 threads in this forum meaning that probably every GS question has been answered but still that doesn't mean newbs should stop asking questions even simple ones because that would mean that this forum would die... Also even if these questions are already answered, maybe some new comer who never saw that question from an old thread can give a better answer than the ones we already have on the same old thread :)
back to the topic, i did reach 170km/h yesterday and the bike did reach it quiet fast for a 500cc , i would never ask for more from a totally stock GS :D
I hope you did that on a private road or racetrack.

i'm suprised there's anything other than carb threads. carbs blow ! >:(
GSTwins.com should look like this. :D

^^my terrible photoshop skillls
I did it on a highway at 3 am in the morning, there was no cars at all. I don't have the money to go on a race track at the moment  and thus why i pushed it a bit on the highway...
