hey guys,
i want a sportier riding position with my gs500f. Im looking for use or new vortex clipon or 89 clipons setup
Let me know what yall have.
Thanks
On the street, nothing like 89's, it fits like it was made for it ... well that's cos it was.
It will not require the fork legs getting pushed into the triples 1+ inch ... nothing.
Cool.
Buddha.
thanks budda for the info!..i plannin on removing the top plate if i do install the clipon. pricing is about the same for a set of new vortex clipon and used 89 clipon. Dont you make clipon also??
My clip on's I am man enough to admit, crapped out.
I would sell you a 89 ... if i had one, those run ya 100 bones. Someone ougtta be selling one.
Cool.
Buddha.
i need to bend the bars to make it work on the F model to work correct? how much do i need to bend..degrees wise?
I'm running 89 clipons with an f model gas tank. start and horn switches barely touch gas tank when your moving the bike around like in your garage. other than that, they'r golden
do the horn and start button touch the tank at full turn when you lock the steering?
Buddha bars are a little longer than stock 89 handle tubes. I think this was supposed to accommodate the master cylinder because it would hit the gauge surround otherwise? :dunno_white:
I can tell you that they're substantially more solid than the stock bars, and they have the ability to hold "modern" bar ends, not the old screw in ones found on the nekkid models.
I have a set of 89 clip-ons you can have...
Pm sent!

Longer ... 1 inch longer will make all the difference rwally for that master cyl.
BTW you notch the bolt relief hole Pronator ? If not, hypershogun will need to. Dremel tool or angle grinder should work.
The press in ends I drill them for ... better than welding in an insert just to make them heavier.
Cool.
Buddha.
No, I didn't notch them; they were already done when I got 'em. :thumb:
Enjoy!
Bwaaaaa ... you're screwed hypershotgun. These are straight.
BTW I can save your bacon ... if you want high risers ... I'd trade ya for the low stock 89 risers ... but ... well they are gonna be higher.
These been notched for the high risers, cos pronator wanted them ... then she sent it back along with 100 feet of fluorescent yellow fuel hose ... then she sold teh rest to you. Bwaaaaaaaa ... can it get any more complicated.
Cool.

i want to keep it low. Will these bar still work the 89 clipon besides it will hit the tank at full lock? I might have to take it to some muffler place and hopefully they can bend the bar a few degrees.
It will work ... obviously it was made for it, just that the tank got fatter. So yea watch those thumbs ...
Cool.
Buddha.
Don't you need to replace the top triple clamp to install the '89's clipons on later models ?

Yeah, it's all good. He'll need to banana them or just watch the full lock. Does Buddha have any suggestions for where the bend should take place? I.e. 2.5" from the bar end side.

not yet..more likely from part where the bar is inserted into the riser.
heres an example..red is where the bend take place..and green is the original straight bar

OK fine, I'll try to bend it with a pipe put on top of the bar and chucking up the mandrel and some sacrificial aluminum 1/2 pipe in a vice, throw a foot on the vice jaw and pull away.
I'll PM ya hypershotgun.
Cool.
Srinath.
Yea your redline would cover it just fine.
BTW you want a black powdercoated dash top plate ...
How about black headlight ears ...

IMHO ... nothing like black everything and running blue lights in the guages.
Headlight bucket in black, ears can be black or if you're lucky enough to have the aluminum ears of 89-90, polish them ... and all else in shiny black.
I got no pics with black headlight ears ... but trust me it looks like a million bucks.
Cool.
